This came out today. It's a open world super powers games. You can be a super hero or a super powered douchebag. It's a little bit Assassin's Creed with the running around the the city, climbing buildings and jumping from rooftop to rooftop but with a fun and interesting combat system rather than the repetitious and boring combat. And it's a little bit GTA with the 3 separate areas of the city, hidden items to find scattered all over and side mission except inFamous's side missions are a little more varied and fun than GTA. It's also much easier and faster to move around the map even without a car than GTA and without all those little annoyances that litter Liberty City. The story has been interesting thus far and is partially told through comic book styled cut scenes that look incredible. And it features what is undoubtedly the greatest title screen in video game history.
The first image you see is an idyllic city street with people walking around doing their business. The only other things on the screen is the game logo and "Press Start" adn the bottom center of the screen. You press start and.......
BOOM! A massive explosion destroys the city. You then take control of the main character who is somehow still alive at the epicenter of the explosion.
It sets the mood an atmosphere for the game perfectly. It's a fun, addicting and engrossing game. I usually totally ignore the side missions in games like these but I have already done every single one for the first island because it's too much fun.

I've gotten so fed up with WoW lately that I'm actually getting back into console gaming. I already bought UFC Undisputed this month (and am having a blast with it) but once I tire of it I'll probably have to pick this one up. They played the commercial ad nauseum during Raw on Monday and it looked pretty cool.

There's a very similar game coming out in June for both 360 and PS3 called Prototype. If you liked the set up of this game you might want to try that.
I only have two minor gripes. One is the controls. They feel a little awkward but they get the job done. There's a lot of jump assistance which makes the tricky jumps easier but can cause problems with simpler stuff. Doing something as simple as jumping on a ladder can be annoying. Another is that as you progress in the game more and more crazy shit starts happening. The battles get HUGE and it ratchets up the difficulty fairly quickly. While it looks incredibly awesome with so many characters fighting on screen and lightning flying everywhere and cars exploding and being thrown all over the place it's overwhelming at first.

Finally picked it up last night and already put in about 4 hours...
I would have put time in on it today, but my son would keep trying to grab the controller...
The controls take a bit of getting used to (first thing I did was change the right stick camera mode), but the game is a lot of fun. I very much enjoyed my first sticky bomb grenade. It reminded me of my old Starseige: Tribes days.

For those of you who purchased it, are you finding the gameplay to be repetitive at all / does it get old? I'm hearing mixed reviews on that front (it's a good looking game and the demo was decent, so I'm considering pulling the trigger.) Thanks.

Some of the side missions are repetitive. I am only just starting on the second island, and there are new bad guys and stronger gang members than what I fought on the first island.
I've also gotten new abilities as I've gone on in the game. I like trying to find new ways to kill the baddies.
If the game gets too repetitive, I'll end up getting bored with the game real fast. (Hence me doing very little on my WoW main right now.)

Thanks a lot. Are all of your weapons electricity/energy based, or do you get to use anything else (like firearms, explosives, telepathic stuff?)

All of the weapons you have are your electricity powers. However, that doesn't stop you from using your abilites to blow up cars to take out multiple baddies, throwing missles back at the baddies and launching cars (and dumpsters and trash cans and people) at them too.
If you are interested you can use the code that came with inFamous to download the Uncharted 2 multiplayer beta right now. It goes live at midnight.

I picked this up on friday and I have not been able to put it down. This is one of the best games I have played. It is highly addictive.
The free running is very close to Assassin's Creed, though not quite as fluid. The graphics and environments are pretty good, but not the best out there. It is sandbox, like GTA, but I actually like it better since it is a more manageable size. You don't find yourself travelling across the map just to start a mission, only to come alll the way back. The travel is very simple, you can climb anything or grind on power lines or rail lines. All the easter eggs (shards and drops) actually benefit you by boosting energy and filling in the story. While the missions are reused, the enemies and environments are different enough to keep it interesting. It is a very enjoyable game, highly recommended

With open world games I usually get bored with the missions and just blowing things up. Not with this one, I wasn't able to put it down the first few days I got it. It's definitely worth buying. Some of the side missions get repetitive but the story missions keep things fresh and the more you progress the more powers you unlock.
