You can love 'em. You can hate 'em.
But you cannot deny that it is a great formula. In the late 80's to early 90's you could not find a rock album without one. All catchy with great hooks.

Let me put on my asbestos suit, then post this link.

Enjoy.

Every time I visit my mom I BEG her to take down the photo of me sporting a mullet, a denim jacket, and my Stratocaster. It was a promo photo taken by a professional photographer for a band I was in over 20 years ago and I cringe every time I see it.

She always tells me she loves that picture.

I had a mullet twenty years ago not because I was into hair bands, but because it just seemed right at the time I guess. In fact I did not like these bands at all back then. But as I put in a thread not too long ago I've been listening to Hair Nation lately, and am suprisingly enjoying it. Most of the power ballads I can do without, though.

I was at my parents' house a few weeks ago and found this id badge from when I used to volunteer at the local hospital. In it I'm sporting a mini-mullet. I never had a full-on mullet. Not for lack of trying though. Anytime I would grow my hair long it would start to annoy me after a while, and I would cut it off. My how times change.

i was re-watching the "Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves" on one of the HD movie channels a few weeks ago, i didn't realize when i was younger but that movie is just such a clusterfuck. i remembered it having credibility when it was released but it was such a disaster

and i didn't realize it came out over 15 years ago, when I heard Ridley Scott was making a new Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe i was like "already?"

Goddammit, Gvac!
You know my musical base is as good, if not better than yours. We are the same age. We both grew up in the same place. Brought up on PLJ and NEW. We also both dug a bit deeper to find the roots of what we listened to. Hell. I brough Zeppelin back to St. Louis, MO.
I think the difference may be that I unclenched a bit after school and before a real life.
Hell, I was at Studio One almost every Friday night. (mostly free from SOU)
I loved the Power Hour on U-68. I was watching the HeadBangers Ball with goddam Adam Curry. I was on the cusp of this movement. I enjoyed the hell out of it, and still do.
Punk bored me, Earl had played the shit out of every record I already owned. (but A.J. is ok with that)
I needed something new and alive. I was doing SOU during it's prime. Before Nirvana. Ahead of the curve in that genre. I've mentioned it before, I was reviewing metal records for 2 magazines before Seattle even hit.

I'm not even going to say give it a chance, because you have obviously poo pood it, and it is dead to you. Your loss.

In closing;
I SWEAR to the Metal Child,
If you do not make time for an evening with me before any changes may occur in your life, I will hunt you down and...
probably do nothing.

I'll close with this. If you don't like it, TOUGH SHIT!!

Not what it was in it's Glory Day's. (stupid Jesuit University) but still a good source for what is hard. Both local and national.

One day I shall tell you guys of my various trips to SOU and the UNBELIEVABLE bands they had in that shitty studio! I'm talking stadium acts, on there way to the Meadowlands.

Your loss.

None of this explains why you like terrible "music."

It's thin, soulless, and without any merit whatsoever.

You can't even say "It has a good beat and I can dance to it" like a well crafted pop tune.

You should be ashamed of yourself.

Huh?

For the most part, I hated hair bands and power ballads. The exception was White Lion. My first girlfriend played their album and I thought Vito Bratta was a very good guitarist. I'm sorry but, I love the melodies in this song:

Hand in your Stones card and burn your guitars.

You're dead to me.

We're all of us allowed a guilty pleasure or two.

We're all of us allowed a guilty pleasure or two.

Agreed. But hair metal?

I'd rather hear you say ABBA or The Village People.

They're a little less cheesy.

Please leave your hatred of cheese out of this!

You guys realize the bands added the power ballads to their albums so that chicks would come to their shows, right?

I like a few power ballads, not all the ones I posted earlier. Carrie by Europe is absolutely terrible. I don't own any power ballads. I just hear them on the radio every once in a while.
The bands are all pretty cheesy during that time period. But it wasn't impossible for a good song to come out every now and then, in my opinion.
