an interesting list of the top 10 movie and television dystopian futures. (http://www.newsarama.com/film/090520-countdown--apocalypse.html)
what do you think of the list?
the only one i have never seen is the day after.
i don't think reign of fire should be on the list.
i think v for vendetta should be in the discussion.
i like the pick for #1.
what would you change in your list?

i was surprised wall e was on the list, i never even thought about it when i first saw the article. it was 6th on the list and the more i thought about it, the more i realized how great of a future they really created with that movie. i definitely want to watch it again.

I read the article, and I still don't have a clear picture of what dystopia means.:help:

as per wikipedia:
A dystopia (from the Greek δυσ- and τόπος, alternatively, cacotopia,[1] kakotopia, cackotopia, or anti-utopia) is the vision of a society that is the opposite of utopia. A dystopian society is one in which the conditions of life are miserable, characterized by human misery, poverty, oppression, violence, disease, and/or pollution.

Does Children of Men fit? That movie is brilliant.

i also think children of men was a great one that is not on the list.

i thought it was good for a while, but then when Clive Owen starts running through battle fields dodging bullets, it got a bit stupid. and then it seemed like the writers didn't know how to end it, so they just stopped writing.

Idiocracy is fantastic too.
AI was fun the first time I saw it.
Gattaca and Minority Report might just be futuristic movies but I love them

I forgot about Gattaca, that is probably one of my favorite movies.

OKay, I did a google search and there are a couple other articles that cover it a little more thoroughly. My vote's cast for The Running Man and Clockwork Orange. So there.

Probably my number one.
IRobot was pretty sweet. Not as a movie, but as a vision of future society.

The first list under google search 'dystopia movies' is really good. Better than this one.

i agree, it has a lot more great movies on the list. so here's the link to that to get some more discussion going:

the newsarama article seemed to have a lot more of the "blockbuster" type movies than others.
i'd have to say this is one of my favorite genres of movies.

I can't watch them too often, because I find such a bleak depiction of the future depresses me. I realize it's fiction, but I have to mix it up with happy movies to balance it all out.

That list is WAY better than the one in the OP.
Pleasantville was fantastic. I'll never say it's one of my favorite movies, but I'll usually watch it. Even with all the annoying race lessons they try to throw in.
