Wayans: Munsters is Still Coming
Source:ShockTillYouDrop.com
May 20, 2009

The idea of a Munsters feature film with the Wayans Bros. involved terrifies this fan of the television series.

It's one of those projects that was announced years ago and hasn't yet come to fruition, but when we get a chance to speak to either Shawn or Marlon Wayans, we can't help but inquire as to the project's whereabouts. Yesterday, we got the following update from the latter who was out promoting Dance Flick.

"We're doing a rewrite on [Munsters] now. Bascially we're doing what they did with The Adams Family and bringing a classic to the screen," said Marlon.

In previous reports the brothers stated the film will be PG-13 and will not star them. They'll relocate the Munsters family to modern day.
Just like Who's Your Caddy??, Just like Honeymooners.

Why?

But if they stay true and stick the the Addam's Family movies, then I will be ok. I liked the first one with Raul Julia.

Because those movies made enough money to warrant more black remakes. You know that no one cares about the quality of a product, just how much money they can make with a brand.

And I'm sure some people here saw those horrible black remakes, so it's your fault this shit goes on if you saw that garbage.

Good point, the Wayans Brithers do more like the "Scary Movie 1,2,3,4,5" and the rest of the spoof movies..

I think Geno just hates the blacks...

The original was both black AND white.

And it is a black comedy.

What?

OH you thought I meant BLACK comedy.

Would they be able to get away with having the Munsters be a family played by white actors, with the exception of Marilyn being played by a hot African-American actress?

I know they wouldnt be able to do it the other way around.

I love how we have to now pretend that the Munsters is some sacred American institution now. If anyone actually gave a shit like the histronics here and in the link imply then people would have rioted after those shitty Munster TV movies over the years and that horrendous The Munsters Today TV series back in the 80's. Yeah, THOSE were just fine, but if the blacks get involved, uh-oh, NOW you've gone too far. I hope they don't drag down Al Lewis' sterling reputation as a porn-obsessed creep. Hell, wasn't there actually a porn version of this show? THAT'S tolerable, but a "black version" is something to flip out over?

Weirdos.

The main theme of the movie should be about white flight

I agree with this, and to be honest, its the Wayans so I have a feeling they wont go with the "every character is black" routine.

BUT....you cant tell me The Honeymooners wasnt a travesty. That shouldve been sacred.

Lightning already struck twice when they signed Klugman and Randall. Who was the genious who thought it was a good idea to make a go of it again. Catering to the black audience. It was hated equally by blacks, whites Asians, latinos, eskimos, etc.

Eh, it's just a TV show. Crappy remakes of shows and movies don't take away the original, so it doesn't really bug me. Besides, like you said, that was a remake based on a genuine classic. The Munsters was just corny schlock. It would be like people flipping out over a remake of Mr. Ed.

i dont think they have the ability or respect that this project requires. we lost a great treasure w/ fred gwenn.... and Al and
de carlo too. im not opposed to a reimagining ; but not w/ these two at the helm.

a remake of Mr. Ed.

Technically, Sex in The City was a movie version of a tv show by the same name,
but I can see where youd get confused...

munster go home wasnt bad. poor writing and terrible direction for munsters revenge. Fred named a price that the wernt supposed to be willing to pay..... felt like happy days was directing. only saw a little of that 80's version.... just poor. looked developed by the same crew that did the new gidget.
i just feel they are going to mock.

did you see car 54 ? just shameful.

Fucking true that.
Joan Cusack was hysterical in that, and she looked amazing.
