View Full Version : Bad Parts of Great TV Shows

There's no such thing as a perfect TV show. Not yet, anyway. Even the great shows have something in them, a weak plotline, or character, or situation, that they probably would have been better off losing.
The one that inspired this thread to me:
http://www.hbo.com/sopranos/img/cast/character/dr_melfi.jpg
OK, I guess that the whole "mobster goes to therapy" plotline on The Sopranos was interesting at first, but it rapidly got kind of tiresome. And they clung to it even as it became clearer and clearer that Tony was not being helped by the therapy, and Dr. Melfi stuck with Tony even as it became dangerous to her.
Plus, the character of Dr. Melfi never really developed, and she always was kind of annoying. And Lorraine Bracco...not one of our great actresses.
Whaddya got?

i hate in comedies when a character becomes so popular that the actor has to wait for the applause to stop. i found this really annoying in Seinfeld with Krammer.

See also Happy Days with The Fonz.

This.
It's amazing how good that show is given how shitty everyone but him is as an actor.

Yeah and?
Alan Alda destroyed M*A*S*H. Put anyone else on the planet in that role and it might be watchable.
I'm going to put the final episode of Quantum Leap on this list.

Here's one more for me: the "homeless serial killer" plotline in the final season of The Wire. The 5th season of the Wire still kicks the shit out of pretty much anything else that's been on TV before or since, but that plotline was the first time something on the show didn't feel like it was ripped out of reality, and, instead, felt like a plotline on a cop show.

I never thought the problem with MASH was Alda, I thought the maturation of the "Hot Lips" character from a selfish-bitch to a sympathetic woman was devastating to the comedic angle of the show.
the final episode of seinfeld

Come to think of it, you're right.
I can't stand the entire cast or the show itself.
I'll never understand why some people thought it was funny.
