I'm not sure if I really have a favorite, but the first time I heard "Rooster" in surround sound, I think I almost cried. The harmonizing in that song is amazing.

And their self titled album I enjoyed when it came out, but I really appreciate it so much more now. Just listening to it after the fact, the album is absolutely fucking brilliant. The fact that it even got made is amazing. Just hearing Layne struggle so much adds this weird dynamic to the album that is not something you hear often.

See, I always thought Rooster was a great single. But hearing Jerry and Layne sing a chorus two completely different ways together perfectly just put it in this other league for me.

And they are such a go-to band for me. No matter the mood, they have some sort of album that will fill my need.

Their Unplugged album was unbelievable.

Damn, this is a tough one......

In my opinion, it comes down to Alice in Chains and Pearl Jam.

While PJ has such a diverse library, nothing touches the raw emotion and vocal harmony of Alice in Chains.

If the question is which captures the "Seattle Sound", i gotta go with Alice in Chains.

If its which is the all around better band, gotta go with PJ.

Ive seen PJ a ton of times, and was blown away each time.....

G,
We are the same age. We grew up only a few miles from each other.
Of course I was brought up on 60's and 70's music. WNEW ruled our world for a while.
But some of us were clever enough to break out of it. We were fortunate enough to have some of the finest college stations in the country.
It started on WFMU with the punk movement. That was a great break from the mold. But grew a bit tired.
Then bands like Rush, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden started to make an impact. I could not have been happier. I was sick of goddam Carol Miller getting the Led out. Top 10 at 10, and all the other bullshit. This music was a rebirth for me.
I will never forget my roots. What I was brought up on, or even were it came from.(I have numerous blues, country, Yardbirds posts)
But this music was just the kick in the ass the industry needed. Nobody can dispute the late 80's to early 90's metal explosion.
