i almost voted for Toni Morrison because she used to teach at my college in the 80s (university of albany in the house!)
wonder when the backlash will come from people who want to vote for Morrissey.

I wish Van Morrison would be murdered.
Van Morrison may very well be the greatest white soul singer ever.
If it's not him it's Gregg Allman.
Anyone who doesn't agree is insane and should be locked up immediately, if not sooner.
Thank you and have a good night.

I think it's permissable to like Jim Morrison when you're just getting into rock music, when you're, say, 14 or 15 years old. He sounds poetic, and the sexual vibe he gives off is sort of appealing when about all the real sexual experience you have is spanking it to a well-worn copy of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. In short, he very much looks the part.
But if you keep liking him past that point, and can't see how little is there below the (admittedly attractive) surface, something's wrong, man.

I wish Van Morrison would be murdered.
There has been an all out assault on his liver for 50 years, to no avail.
He would not be murdered. It would be called an assasination.
You truly are an ass.

And I shall drive my chariot
Down your streets and cry
'Hey, it's me, I'm dynamite
And I don't know why'
And you shall take me strongly
In your arms again
And I will not remember
That I even felt the pain.
We shall walk and talk
In gardens all misty and wet with rain
And I will never, never, never
Grow so old again.
Please.

I'm not trying to defend his writing or lyrics at all but his style definitely hearkened to the Romanticism movement of poets like Wordsworth, Byron and Coleridge. So i can see how people who would be a fan of those poets could like the lyrics of The Doors. Combine that with the uprise of the counterculture and that entire movement and it makes sense why they were so popular.
Otherwise, yeah they stunk.
James Douglas. Like him or not, he's one of the best frontmen in rock history.
