View Full Version : Favorite Cheating at Sports Moment?

Since there has been such rampant cheating in sports lately, what is your favorite moment in sports history that involved some kind of cheating?

My personal favorite is Sammy Sosa's corked bat in 2003. Such a hacky way to cheat. Why ruin your career on something that really won't help anyway. At least steroids help your game.

I dont remember who it was but the pitcher that dropped the sandpaper out of his pocket on tv was hilarious. Trying to act like he didnt have anything.

Oh and for the record I dont consider steroids cheating. I not only think they shouldnt be illegal but I think players should be allowed to use them under a doctors observation.

Rosie Ruiz, who used the T to cross the line first at the Boston Marathon. Hey, at least she used mass transit.

When I first saw the thread I thought of the Sosa bat thing too. How about in naked gun when the pitcher has vasoline and a sander?

The catcher throws a potato over the third baseman's head, the runner takes off for home and catcher tags him out while the left fielder eats the potato !!

Rosie Ruiz is taking this too seriously. Instead of crying on national TV, she could have written a book, Shortcuts to Fame. It would start on Chapter 20.

Hands down...

A heavy ground fog had settled across Louisiana's Delta Downs racetrack in December 1990 when jockey Sylvester Carmouche pulled off a surprise upset by finishing first on the 23-1 long shot Landing Officer. But even more surprising was the magnitude of his victory. Landing Officer won by 24 lengths, finishing just 1.2 seconds shy of the track record for a one-mile course.

It wasn't that Landing Officer had discovered an inner reserve of strength somewhere in the backstretch. As it turned out, the jockey had steered the horse out of the race while lost from view in the fog, cut across the course and rejoined the field again as the other horses came around. Other jockeys admitted they'd never even seen him. Carmouche received a 10-year ban but was reinstated after serving eight.

Joe Neikro did something like that once...I think it was actually a nail file though.

Lance Burkhart snagging Rick Kanes leash.

I do love the 'gamesmanship' of Shane Victorino. Last week he ran out of the baseline to shove Jose Reyes to draw an interferance call and take second base. This year also saw him kicking a ball that was skipping by where he was standing on second base so he could take third. The dude is just lovable.

"Hey Burkhart...wanna buy some photos???"

Im pretty sure what Victorino does isnt considered cheating. Its called "smart baseball".

Gaylord Perry rescuing a nowhere career by developing a spitball (more often than not it was actually a scuffball, though). Opposing managers had him searched many, many times but was never caught with anything. He later revealed how he did it in the book "Me and the Spitter".

Did you know that if you watch the game when it is replayed on YES or Classic sports that Rizzutto says that the same thing had been pulled on Mercer earlier in the season.

"There was then a nice clean carpet for kicker John Smith to kick the 33-yard field goal giving the Patriots a 3-0 victory. At the time, there was no rule prohibiting this action so the sweep and the field goal stood despite protestations from coach Don Shula of the Dolphins. Now in bad weather, coaches confer on the field to determine what can and cannot be done during the game but, Mark Henderson will always be associated with "The Snowplow Game."

One of my favs was Wilton Guerrero (Vlad's bro) and his corked bat:

His broken bat shattered, and when he scrambled to pick up the pieces instead of running it out, the umpires became suspicious. The bat had been corked. Guerrero was ejected, suspended for eight games, and fined $1,000.

Yeah Joe Neikro in 1987.....he pulls it out of his back pocket and trys to toss it when the Umpire asks him to empty his pockets. But everyone sees it and Neikro picks it up like.."how did that get there"!!http://sports.espn.go.com/media/mlb/2005/0417/photo/a_niekro_il.jpg
