Seriously. I know my pitching is to blame, but I still cant figure out how the fuck Im 0-5.
Take a look at this team (and keep personal biases aside, I dont need to here "its because you have 2 Boston players" or dumb shit like that.)
This is a 10 team head to head league, with weekly lineup changes.
C Brian McCann
1b Ryan Howard
2b Brandon Philips
3b Kevin Youkilis
SS JJ Hardy
OF Manny Ramirez
OF Johnny Damon
OF Jacob Ellsbury
DH Nick Swisher
3 starters per week
P Cole Hamels
P Dice K
P Cliff Lee
P Joe Blanton
P Fausto Carmona
P Paul Malholm
P Brad Penny
P Jordan Zimmerman
RP Frank Francisco
Notable Backups
Pat Burrell
Matt Laporta
Freddy Sanchez
Dont get me wrong, its a 22 week season, and although Im getting bombarded with ridiculous fire sale like trade offers, I feel that if Im patient once everyone is healthy the talent will come around.
Am I wrong? Any advice here? For the record this is my 5th year in the league. The other 4 times I finished 3rd twice, 2nd once and 1st once.
There is a good reason you are 0-5. Your pitching is weak, your batting average must be hideous and you don't have any speed.

You dont lose point for average. Its not rotisserie. Scoring system is:
Singles 1
doubles 2
triples 3
homers 4
rbis 1
runs 1
walks 1
stolen bases 2
1 inning pitched 1/2
k 1
win 10
earned run -1
loss -5
And I know its my pitching costing me but my pitchers are good. Thats my problem. I got a kid offering me Vernon Wells and Chris Young for Hamels. I cant make that stupid trade. I think its a combo of injuries and bad luck right now. I lost a total of 15 starts by my lineup this week.
No speed. If JAcoby is slow WTF do consider fast

thats your problem right there
wins are the most points on the board and with the -5 for losses your losing valuable points
all the offense you have means nothing if that other guy you face has his pitchers win 4 or 5 games
1 inning pitched 1/2
k 1
win 10
earned run -1
loss -5
And I know its my pitching costing me but my pitchers are good.
In a 10-team league your pitching is hideous. All you have is Hamels and Dice-K and you knew Hamels was gonna be banged up coming into the season.

Sure, Ellsbury is great. I have him in my league as he is very helpful. But when you are in a 10-team league with this limited of a roster:
C Brian McCann
1b Ryan Howard
2b Brandon Philips
3b Kevin Youkilis
SS JJ Hardy
OF Manny Ramirez
OF Johnny Damon
OF Jacob Ellsbury
DH Nick Swisher
There is absolutely no excuse to only have 1 player with any realistic speed. (And don't say Damon, because this isn't 2000).

Talking about other people fantasy teams rules. Just beating out talking about bad beat poker stories.

If you tell me about your pair of Aces in the hole that got beat on the turn one more time, I'll knock you out.

The worst part is, usually the person is behind then gets lucky to get ahead, then the % returns to form and they lose. Just stop playing

I've been in a 12 team league for 6 years and I have never seen a worse pitching staff. Pull yourself together son and trade a couple of bats for an arm.

Im looking for pitching. The problem with trading sure hitters for pitchers is the uncertainty.
Here are a few names in the Top 20 pitchers in our league as far as scoring goes:
4. Chad Billingsly
5. Yovani Gallardo
6. Joe Saunders
7. Justin Verlander
8. Josh Johnson
12. Mark Buehrle
14. Tim Wakefield
16. Aarion Harang
17. Scott Richmond
19. Eric Stults
20. Wandy Rodriguez
Would you feel confident in any of those guys being a stud for the season like you would guys like Ryan Howard or Kevin Youkilis? Because thats who they want and I cant see myself making that kind of trade.
Oh and in this league power hitters are more important then speed. Youd need 7 stolen bases to make up for two 2 run dingers. But I do love Ellsbury for grabbing those swipes.

Why do fantasy analysts always harp on speed, speed, speed? What good is speed other than the one category: stolen bases? Sure maybe he can stretch a double or beat out an infield hit every once in a while, but for speed to be mentioned as often as it is is ridiculous.

I agree TripleSkeet about the good pitchers right now being too risky to trade for a dependable hitter. What I like to do is just look who is scheduled to start that week and pick up the one who has the best matchup. Since yours is a weekly league, it won't be as effective, but you should be able to predict pretty well who will start. Just keep one or two positions on your staff in constant rotation.

Players with good speed correlate with avg, steals and runs. That's 3 categories that are directly impacted by their speed.

Yea thats pretty much what Im doing. I think lately its just none of them are getting me any points. I think itll turn around. I just rotate my starters by matchup or by number of starts. I cant constantly keep picking up and dropping guys though because its $3 a transaction and that shit gets expensive quick.

What league charges per transaction? Or is that something you have set up with your buddies to make things interesting?

It's how the winner makes money.
If you were smart you'd trade a stud hitter for 2 decent pitchers, Ryan Howard strikes out enough to make him a liability. I had him last year and he cost me 3-4 wins. Maybe throw in Zimmerman, Carmona or Maholm (why did you even draft him?). Move Youkilis to 1st and find a free agent 3rd basemen or make another trade for one. The 3 bucks is worth it in the long run if you get back to the top of the league.

Yea its a league with my friends so the transaction money goes into the pot.
Heres the thing though Tallman, we dont get penalized for strikeouts. Between his HR's and RBI totals Howards been in the Top 5 scoreres the last 3 years. I know alot of leagues strieouts hurt you but not this one.
I didnt draft Malholm, I picked him up because he was a high scoring free agent at the time. Thats what I mean with these pitchers, there are so few you can look at and say "he'll be a stud all year". Guys like Santana and Beckett arent easy to grab either. Now this week I have Kouzmanoff starting for Youk (another guy on the DL) and Burrell in for Manny. Like I said, injuries suck. We will see what happens.
Mother fucker! Now my closer is hurt too.
