So the NCAA lacrosse tournament started yesterday with some really good games:
Johns Hopkins beat Brown in OT 12-11
UNC beat UMBC 15-13 with Billy Bitter scoring 8 goals on 9 shots
Duke beat the snot out of Navy 14-5, shutting them out in the first half.
Cornell beat Hofstra 11-8
Today Maryland plays at Notre Dame (Terps are up 4-1 at the moment), Villanova is at UVA, Siena at Syracuse and UMass plays at Princeton.
This is one of my favorite times of the year, the Final 4 is a great way to spend Memorial Day weekend.

The UVA-Hopkins game looks like it'll be the game to watch this weekend. I think it's on ESPNU or ESPN2.

He had a pretty good year for a freshman 7 goals, 5 assists (http://www.goduke.com/fls/4200/stats/2008-09/lacrosse-m/teamcume.htm#TEAM.IND). It has him listed as a Defender but he must have been moved, most defenders don't score 7 goals in a career. If you get ESPNU the Duke game is on Sunday at 2.

Dude where can I watch? I love lacrosse but it's not really televised so unless I go to a game I can't see it.

The final 4 & championship will be on ESPN2 Memorial Day weekend. Otherwise the next round is on ESPNU

Thanks I will watch. The kid was always a complete beast through HS. Team won state champs, undefeated. He has a younger brother too.

Cornell beat Princeton 6-4 in the second game.
Tomorrow we have UNC-Duke and Hopkins-UVA.
I have to be honest - I know absolutely nothing about lacrosse. I grew up playing hockey and I heard Gretzky and a lot of the Canadian players talk about how lacrosse influenced their playing style but I never checked it out.
Where can I get an idea of what the game is all about?
And sites you could recommend?

Honestly, I learned by watching it on TV and playing. There are a lot of Hockey-ish elements to it, so you'd be able to pick it up rather quickly. The final 4 is on ESPN2 next weekend, but it's memorial day weekend, which makes it hard for most people to see.
ESPN has been doing a good job of mixing in explanations of the basics during breaks. Also Inside Lacrosse (http://www.insidelacrosse.com/) is a good site for news and information. The message boards are good about providing information also. There are some decent videos on the site as well.
Okay now for today's scores:
UVA smashed Hopkins 19-8
DUke beat UNC 12-11
From the way UVA played today, it would be tough to pick against them in the next 2 games. They've just run over their opposition thus far.

Here's this weekend's schedule, the semis will be on ESPN2 on Saturday, the championship will be on ESPN on Monday at 1 PM.
Duke v. Syracuse at Noon
UVA v. Cornell at 2:30ish
I'll say UVA is advancing, but the Duke/Syracuse game should be a really good one

Lacrosse.
Salt potatoes.
Snowmobiling.
That's what Syracuse does.
If SU can hang on to win this Duke game, and Virginia can win it will set up a great rematch game in the finals.

Cornell vs. Syracuse in the finals.
Lemoyne University is playing for the Division II championship and Cortland is playing for the Division III championship.
All four schools are in about a 50 mile radius of Syracuse so its going to be a good weekend for Central NY lacrosse.

Yesterday couldn't have been more lopsided, if Cornell plays as well tomorrow as they did yesterday, the championship game should be a good one.

I can't believe 'Cuse just stole victory from Cornell with 4 seconds to go!! That was un-fucking-believable!!!
Tallman388
05-25-2009, 11:29 AM
And 'Cuse wins in OT!! That was probably one of the best title games since Princeton beat Syracuse in OT in 2001.
