The town must have recently changed the signs on my street to now say "no parking - loading zone"
I had no idea and have been parking where I always have been for years. I want to fight the ticket, because they got me twice in 2 weeks and each ticket is $50! The question I have is this:
I got the tickets in Mineola, NY and my license says I live in Huntington NY. I have the license say that so that if something happens to me, my parents will be notified, plus my apartment is an "illegal" apartment.
If I go down to fight the tickets, will they ask for my license? If so, I know I can get in trouble for not "really" living in Huntington.
I know that you are suppose to change your address with the DMV if you move. But I have a legitimate reason. Should I fight the tickets and try to reduce the fine, and possibly expose myself for further trouble because of my residency issue, or am I worrying for nothing and should fight the tickets? What the town did was put white tape over the signs where it used to say when you can park. I only parked there at night when I was at home, and the signs used to say no parking between such and such hours, loading zone.
Thanks.

You wont get in any trouble for not changing your address. Technically, you still live at your parents house. If you think it's worth it to fight the tickets, go for it.

My question is why did you get a 2nd ticket? If you knew the signs were changed after receiving the 1st ticket, why did you park there again?

dont worry about the address thing

the ticket place in nassau is so single minded about fining for simple infractions that they wouldnt even notice if you took a few key kicks while waiting

if its a new sign you can probably fight it if you've been there lots before, especially if its just tape on a sign.
they might ask about your past driving record, just to be dicks, but if its not too bad i bet youll get off

I parked in a different spot, just not where the signs are as the first ticket. But it was the same stretch of block but there were no signs where I was ticketed the second time. Can they just come and tape over the sign and change the parking rules without giving people notice? I guess they can, but I would think they would put notices on peoples cars beforehand, like "starting next week, this area will be designated as a loading zone, park elsewhere" or whatever.

you can have multiple residencies... the question is when they got you the first time you did not notice the new signs and waited for a second ticket?

If it was one they might let you fight it, but by the second time around you clearly knew there was no parking.

True, but it was in a different area of the same street. And there no signs anywhere near the second time I was ticketed. So, is it assumed that a sign 200 feet down the road applies to the whole block? Would I be out of line bringing pictures to court? I can easily take pictures of the area I was ticketed at.

You're not out of line bringing photos as evidence to plead your case.

It's done all the time.

Just pay the tix u cheap bastard....and watch where u park.
If u were facing DMV points, I would say fight it. Otherwise it's not worth the hassle.

The tickets will cost me $50 each, plus an unexplained $10 surcharge on the last one. So it will cost me $110.00 you wouldn't try and fight it? Better the money in my pocket then theirs.

always bring pics. the more 'evidence' you bring the more theyll just let you go. they want money, not the hassle

yup. they put a sign up early in the morning around the corner from where i live up in albany. when i went to leave for work at 1pm there was a nice ticket on my windshield.

& they got my boyfriend on the other side of the street the week before the same way.

its like the people who put the signs up have the tickets with them or something cause we live on basically a private out of the way street where people don't drive on unless they live here.

Most likely they did put up notices but perhaps not anywhere you would have looked. Small blurb in the local paper, at the DMV, perhaps below the sign for the week leading up to the change (but who looks at a sign if they know what it says already). They do have to warn you, but they don't have to send a letter to everyone in town who might park there (it'd be a waste of resources - same with paying someone to type out a flyer and then pay someone else to put them on cars).

Pay the tickets.
Be grateful they aren't more then $50, as they are in BK.
