He had mounting pressure to carry both the dodgers and his ego.
Of course, if it turns out he was doing them toward the end of his tenure in Boston as well,

Of course Manny will try and say it's a Romero situation. In this day and age why would you put substances in your body if you weren't absolutely 100% certain it was all legit. On top of that no doctor is going to prescribe medication to a ball player of Mannys stature without also being 100% certain it's all legal. So you can believe what you want, the rest of us will live in the real world where Manny's a juicer

I'm not saying the titles should be taken away or anything that drastic, just saying it makes things interesting. I personally am not a big PED critic. I say if they are not going to take the step to truly test for them, then they should just make them legal.
From Will Carrol at BP
UPDATE 2: Two sources confirm for me that Ramirez did not test positive for an anabolic steroid. What the substance was remains unclear. The press release from MLB indicates that it was not a “drug of abuse” or a “stimulant,” the other two classes of banned substances. Ramirez’s positive test came during Spring Training, which follows his story that he received the substance from a doctor this January.
UPDATE 3: Ramirez’s statement issued through the MLBPA indicates that Ramirez will not appeal his suspension and that he received the banned substance from a doctor. Ramirez was suspended under section 8.G.2 of the Joint Drug Agreement, which is “other.” In his statement, there’s no clear statement that Ramirez ever tested positive. Combined, those two facts point to a non-testable drug, but this is not confirmed. The only other known 8.G.2 suspension was Jordan Schaefer.

I think Schaefer was HGH but I don't think it was a positive test (since HGH can only be found in blood test). I think it was by association...In other words, he was suspected to be associated with known HGH suppliers. So he was found guilty by suspicion.

Of course it's possible. There's no provable reason to think otherwise.
That said, if he started prior, it sure would explain his actions those last few months.
And conspiracy theorizing here, maybe the Sox brass knew, and wanted him out asap, no matter what the cost.
But back to reality... this was a recent test that he failed...wouldnt he also have gone thru tests upon his arrival in LA?

I believe him, and Im not even a Manny fan. I just think MLB and their list of banned substances are fucking ridiculous. If someones using pot or coke, their suspensions should be up to the team, not the league. If its anabolic steroids, then thats all the league should test for and suspend for. This bullshit of getting suspended for something that is prescribed by a licensed medical doctor and not even illegal is just ridiculous.
Then again Im from the school of thought that steroids not only shouldnt be illegal but they shouldnt be banned from sports. To me its no different then an athlete that uses creatine, protein powders and other supplements. Its no more harmful then alcohol or pot if taken in moderation like its supposed to be. If an athlete wants to take it they can. Does it give them an edge? Sure. But dont guys like Derek Jeter have an edge over players that make the league minimum? Im sure he can afford to hire personal trainers, dieticians and chefs to make his every meal that regular players cant.
Shit scientists still havent found anything harmful about HGH. In the articles Ive read they were saying it should be legallized and prescribed by doctors to people over 40 to improve the quality of life.

Correct. Men who take it typically take it after coming off a steroid cycle to, ironically, restart their natural testosterone production. Like ESPN and others have pointed out, it's similar to a drug called Clomid that Bonds and Giambi were found to be taking.
