We've just learned that Dom DeLuise -- who starred in such classics as "The Cannonball Run" and "Spaceballs" -- died last night in a Los Angeles hospital.

We're told he passed away peacefully in his sleep at around 6 PM.

He was 75.

Story developing...

Unbelievable. I just listened to the old show yesterday where ESD talks about trying out to be an ESPN commentator and uses the line: "Somewhere Dom Deluise is smiling, that was a Canonball Run!" To describe a touchdown run. I'm sure someone can post the link to the proper show file.

That's too bad. I've been a fan since he was a regular on the Dean Martin show. Considering the shape he was in, 75 is a good run.

I always liked that guy. I think it was watching those Cannonball Run movies. That was the 1st time I saw something like the end of the movie bloopers with him and Burt Reynolds. They were just having so much honest fun it really stuck with me.

Always loved Conway, The Carol Burnett show lit up when he was on stage. I used to sit through those "Mama" skits just to see him. Then FINALLY Tim and Harvey Korman would get on stage and it would be magic.

But it's a different time now. I wish there was more comedy like this but it wouldn't fly today. It's sad that the shit the TV networks crap out for us these days is considered funny, but that's the way it is. There's no real room for this kind of writing and this kind of show anymore. People's attention spans couldn't take it.

For someone as popular as he was, you never heard anything about him anymore, so I assumed he passed a while ago.

Anyway, godspeed Captain Chaos.

Somewhere, Burt Reynolds is weeping.:glurps:

n a statement, Reynolds said he was "dreading" this news.

"Dom always made everyone feel better when he was around," Reynolds said. "I never heard him say an unkind word about anyone. I will miss him very much."

A clear favorite of Reynolds, with whom he worked in several films and TV shows, DeLuise also was something of a good-luck charm for Mel Brooks, appearing in the director's Blazing Saddles, Spaceballs and more.

Outside of film, DeLuise wrote cookbooks, lent his voice to several cartoon shows and, with his longtime wife, headed an acting clan, which includes sons David DeLuise (Wizards of Waverly Place) and Peter DeLuise (21 Jump Street)

He should be buried in a treasure bath.

What a shame. He left us with some hard-to-match funny movie moments.
And yea, at his weight it's amazing he made it to 75. There will be alot of old-school hollywood stars at this wake/funeral, you can bet on that.

I thought he might have been until I looked it up and saw that Dom also wrote cookbooks.

Why anyone would think he was well known for that aspect of his life is beyond me.
