So mrsdrjoek sent me out to Costco at lunch because they have 11' market umbrellas in sale. I got to wondering what people think about Costco and the like ie BJ's or what ever you have near you. Im not talking Walmart because thats a different beast but these wholesalers.
I hate them but see them as a nessesary evil so I tolerate them.
It saddens me that my socks and chicken nuggets both are the same brand, Kirkland.
But I can get CFold Ppaer towels for work for a lot less thent the dental supplier tries to sell them to me.
The whole we dont use bags just put all your stuff in one of theseboxes and it will roll around the trunk of your car.
The guy standing at the exit with a marker who can magically look at the 99 things in my cart and put a line through it and say thats fine.
I do like the 1.50 cent Jumbo Hotdog and a soda combo.
What do you think?

I always feel weird just shopping there for my wife and I, but we can stock up on stuff like cleaning supplies and cat food for super cheap, so the $50 a year is well worth it.

it's such a good marketing ploy. they sell you memberships so that you end up having a store loyalty to them, and so that you will be sure to do enough shopping there to make it appear worth the annual fee.
that said, i'm not a fan. their markdowns are ok, but if you look at the per unit price, it ends up being like 25% below retail generally. with coupons & deal hunting, you can easily get to average between 40-70% below retail without too much effort.

I like buying my meats at Costco. I divide them up and freeze them. Unless I need something specific, I pretty much have most of my meats for about a month every time I shop.
Other then that, we usually get things like baby wipes, TP, garbage bags, paper towels, etc there.

I recently had a tire blow out and having that stupid costco card saved me like 15 bucks.
I was pleased based on that alone.
PLUS, my costco carries linden's buttercrunch cookies. Which are my fucking FAVE.

I am not that guy.
Sam's (no costco here) is nice but also a pain because they are 15 miles away and it is nearly an all day trip to go, buy, load, drive home, unload, separate, store, then break down the boxes. And now that I ama single I save money in other ways.

I belonged to Costco for a few years because my parents wanted to join (they always went together so there was no need for them to have both cards). I thought they had some interesting things at the time. But I really have no use for their stores. I am not into paying a membership fee just to shop, and you really never know what they are going to have until you get to the store. The place is designed purely for impulse shoppers (buy it now or else we may never have the item again!). It seems like a great place if you love prepared foods and junk food, both of which I do not eat. If every membership based big box store closed down I would not even notice. I do like how Costco treats their employees though, they pay a living wage and provide benefits. I especially hate Sam's Club because they are owned by Walmart.

Kirkland brand goods are very high quality. I also get great name brand shirts and pants at BJs for $20 bucks. BJs sells a bag of 12 bananas for $1.39.
Kirkland canned salmon is the best ive ever tasted.
BJs sells nice watches and jewelry at prices i haven't seen anywhere else.
I'm a fan, but i just borrow my friends card so i don't pay the $50 when i go.
So mrsdrjoek sent me out to Costco at lunch because ....
Were you stocking up on supplies for this summer's beach party ?

I shop at BJ's weekly. They're like any other store though, you have to watch the prices of things. Just because they're selling bulk doesn't mean you can't get it cheaper per unit price somewhere else or even on sale.
I usually get milk there because it's cheaper than the supermarket. Their bananas are .39 cents all the time and that's the best price I can find. I usually get water and Gatorade there, good price again.
They're good places to have a membership to, but you still have to watch pricing. That's all.

their milk is not only cheaper, but fresher. just look at the sell-by date, as compared to your local supermarket.
i buy meats from there, as i can divide / freeze / conquer.
costco's rotissarie chickens are the fucking best.
big ass birds for 4.99- already cooked, hot, ready to devour.
really, if you have the room, there is no reason not to shop there.
ps- they also have the best return policy evah... you can literally bring anything back.

it's probably ultra high pasteurized.
I get the 1 1/2 gal case of UHP organic milk from costco and it lasts for a month

We have Sam's Cub. I like it a lot. Their produce is cheap and fresh. I have to buy about 10-15 lbs a salad per week cause my husband is a salad fanatic. Salad and Beer...that's his diet.
