True on the Homer routine
BUT
they talked at length about how he was going to proudly shake hands and they were following him the whole time and he knew it. . He should have sought him out and made it happen to avoid homers like me calling a spade a spade.

nobody wants to believe in Neckbeard, but every bit of evidence points to him being an above average QB. He stepped in his rookie year and won a ton of games for the Bears. Everyone wants to put that on the defense, but what QB wins a lot of games WITHOUT an above average defense?
I'm not Cutler bashing here, but while you might lose a game because Orton isn't the gunslinging type in the last 2 minutes, won't you conversely lose a few because the gunslinger throws you right out of the game ie. the season opening Packer game?

Randall Cunningham in 1998.
I do agree though. It is very difficult to win games without a decent defense.

They might have won the opening game with Orton, but then very likely lose the next three with Orton.
Let me put it this way: The Broncos would still be good with Cutler. The Bears would be terrible with Orton. The Broncos clearly have a better overall team than the Bears at this point and as such you can plug in an average quarterback like Neckbeard and win. The Bears aren't as good and therefore needed an above average quarterback.

Someone should have alerted CBS to this and not have the roving camera following him and discussing the post game handshake like it was a MidEast peace conference.

Ray Lewis's hit on Ochocinco was extremely dirty. He not only led with his helmet, but left his feet. The NFL is so annoying. You get 15 yard penalties if you breath on a quarterback the wrong way, and a linebacker can nearly decapitate a WR and gets the same penalty? Why not throw guys out of games?

I wouldn't undo the trade. I like Cutler, and it was time for a change of scenery for Orton. Plus, Cutler is undeniably an upgrade.
But so much of this is perception. Favre is the resurrected genius up in Minny, but don't they have better talent than Denver does? Wasn't their schedule weaker? He had to complete a desperation heave in the last seconds to beat San Fran, who just got WAXED at home by ATL, and he's the 4th Quarter Savior!
Meanwhile, Neckbeard goes 35/48 with 2 TDs and a meaningless pick against the PATS, and he's lucky? I know he's not Cutler, he's not Favre.
But I'd take him over Romo. How about that?
(and don't give me "the Broncos have better talent. He's got Marshall.)

You care about the handshake too much. This isn't little league, if someone wants to get off the field after a win or a loss who cares?
It's not like other sports anyways where it's convenient to do so. It seems like it's a pain in the ass, EVERYONE is on the field afterward, players, media, staff. Who wants to go search out a guy who's dressed like every other guy from his teams sidelines?

Alright, thinking about it, I still don't think it's going to happen, BUT:
If TO is in his contract year, it might not be so bad. We could use a guy like him, but will he stfu and play ball? For 3/4 of the season?
Shit, I don't know.
I know right now that we're not favorites to get out of the NFC to the Super Bowl, so you have to ask yourself, what could we do/get to make us better?

He's a spaz but he's not an idiot. He knows that this is his last shot at a big payday, plus it's pretty fucking hard for a receiver to "look good" and not giving his team a good chance at winning the football game. How the fuck would a WR "look good" and help cause the team to lose?

looking good doesnt help cause a team to lose, i never said that. i said he'd rather look good by say putting up an 8 catches, 120 yard and a TD game and lose the game 35-28, then look bad by going for zero catches and winning 9-6.

He wants to win because being on a winning team automatically makes him look better. Is that really that difficult to comprehend? The dude wants to be on a winning team in his contract year. And I'm not saying I want the Bears to give him a big contract: they'd be trading for him for this season only.

Yeah, that's the thing. He has every incentive to play nice and play hard. I hate to say it, but the idea is growing on me.
Cutler is just the kind of QB to play with him. He doesn't take any shit from any one.
And, I'm remembering a couple of games ago when his consecutive streak ended, he would not take the press bait and make an outlandish comment. I was semi-impressed with that.
He might not be top 5 top 10 in the league right now, but he's better than what we've got. Shit, TO, Greg Olsen, Knox and Hester, with Forte out of the backfield?

Wrong..wrong...wrong...wrong...WRONG.
The Eagles were a good team that desperately needed a GOOD wide receiver. He was the best out there, so they signed him. Owens is the reason they dominated the NFC that year, and hes the reason they went to the Super Bowl. AND he came back early from a broken leg and was the best Eagle player on the field that day. If the Eagles win that game, hes the MVP easily.
His greedy fucking agent is what made him look like an asshole. The fans LOVED him here. And alot of us still do. His biggest mistake was listening to that fuckhead agent of his instead of just coming back and playing. His agent had him convinced the Eagles were gonna cut him before his 3rd year, but the way he was playing there was no way they would have because the fans wouldve went apeshit.
If the Bears want a legit shot at beating a team like the Vikings they would get whatever weapons they can, and even with diminished skills hes one of the Top 10 receivers in the league. I repeat, if they can get him theyd be FUCKING RETARDED not to.

Youre not going to win an Eagles argument with me, I can tell you that now.
First, before he got there the Eagles were the typical good but not great NFL team that could win games by grinding it out. Yet inexplicably, they ran a pass oriented offense with Kmart brand wide receivers. That last NFC title game where they made Ricky Manning Jr. look like Ronnie Lott was enough. Fans had enough. They wanted a wide receiver and that was it.
TO MADE that team into a great team. Just like Pete Rose in 1979-80 helped make a really good Phillies team into a great team. He brought swagger and confidence to a team that hardly showed any. And the fucking fans loved him. And without him, they never wrap up the NFC the way they did, and probably dont get home field advantage in the playoffs. And without that home field, they DO NOT make that Super Bowl.
As far as the douchebags burning his jersey, well the news loves to show the stupid fuck Eagles fans on tv that make the real fans like myself look bad. The kind of jerkoffs that do E-A-G-L-E-S chants and Phillies games and get into fistfights with themselves. The only things those dickheads know about football is what the organization tells them. Like we dont need a middle linebacker when Trotter left. Or that our wideouts were good enough with Mitchell, Lewis and Pinckston.
And Im not saying TO isnt to blame for looking stupid. He shares plenty of blame. But if you are going to blame someone for him looking bad you dont blame the Eagles, you blame Drew Rosenhaus.

I'm looking at this week's schedule, and damn is it bad. The only really quality game I see is the Giants/Saints game, and it's a 1PM game, which strikes me as odd. I guess that the schedule makers didn't anticipate it being such a big game when the TV times were handed out, but I'm surprised they didn't shift the game over to 4PM. I'll get the Bengals/Texans game here, which I'll probably at least monitor, because I want to see if the Bengals can finally dominate a game. I'd love them to have a game wrapped up before the last minute.
The only 4PM game that looks interesting at all is the Seahawks/Cardinals game. It's obvious they were setting the New England/Tennessee game up to be the showcase game of this week, but that game will probably suck too.
The Sunday night game is Bears/Falcons, which might be pretty good.
The Monday night game is Denver/San Diego, so I'll probably go for the ALCS instead.

Ill try to explain this one more time:
You have your div teams that you play twice (6 games)
Then you play a preset NFC division (4 games)
Then you play a preset AFC division (4 games)
Thats 14. Then the last 2 games are scheduled based on how you finished last season

Exactly.
The Giants play the the AFC West and NFC South this year.
The 2 unaccounted for games that Snoogans mentioned are against the teams that finished first in the NFC Central and the NFC West, because they finished first in their division.
The 3rd place team in the NFC East will play the 3rd place team from last year in the NFC Central and NFC West, etc.

I don't think a just over 10 yards per catch average is that great for an NFL WR regardless of whether he's the #1 or #4 guy.
And the fact that #2, #3 and #4 WRs on other teams have more TDs and yards than him, with fewer receptions, is telling.
He's not getting open and making these catches in traffic. He's being ignored amd taking advantage which is whyat he's supposed to do.

Last year the Saints through to 16 players, with 11 of them catching 10+ passes.
The Patriots threw to 11 players with only 6 of them catching 10 + passes.
The Saints had 11 players catch a TD and the Patriots only had 5.

It's the one thing they did poorly.
Giving up those kinda big yards could hurt them down the line.
Its also what makes that final score look less dominating than it was.

As it is, the Redskins are the first team in NFL history to face six consecutive winless opponents, but they haven't managed to take advantage.

I am so, so, so glad I didn't drink the Jets kool-aid earlier this season. Sanchez isn't that good and his stats prove that. He's a rookie QB in the league, and people were pumping him up like he was throwing 300/3 TD a game.
I was excited about the defense, but after the showing in Miami, still cautious.
This team needs a rebuild. They've got the parts to win - just need better strategy.
AND STOP THROWING TO DUSTIN KELLER, SANCHEZ.
I couldn't understand that at all. Edwards was catching stuff right and left, and Sanchez still threw at Keller, who was dropping all day.

Tis true about Sanchez but even after 5 ints they were still one bobbled hold away from winning the game with a kick.
They aren't a playoff team, but the arrow points up. The question is, can Sanchez mature before his line gets old on him?

Yeah because that makes sense.
I do remember saying something about Brady and Moss.
Oh wait no I didn't.
You comment on every single minute detail of Rutgers football in the college football thread and yet I can't complain about the 1 thing that I feel my team did poorly in a game ?
My comments on Welker were about his career and not one game.
Sorry that he can't do as much on the other side of possibly the #1 WR in football as some guys do on the other side of less highly regarded WRs.

I was commenting sarcastically to underdog. He was the one who called you out for killing welker.
And you noticed I killed Rutgers when they lost. If they ever won a game 59-0 I would not be in there tryin to find shit they did wrong. You are just insane
JimBeam
10-19-2009, 08:22 AM
But the Saints didn't win by 59 points so as a fan I should be concerned that maybe against a team like the Patriots giving up 281 yards in kicks could be more costly than it was against the Giants.
Insane would be reading my post and interpreting that I called the Patriots play into question ( outside of keeping Brady in too long ).
As far as they go I didn't point out anything they did wrong more to the point I mocked the Titans for their performance by allowing Welker to score as many TDs in that game as he did all of last year.

Looks like the Skins front office is making the change that should have already been made.
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - - From calling Bingo to calling plays, Sherman Lewis is taking Jim Zorn's favorite duty.
The Washington Redskins said Monday that Lewis will take over the play calling for an offense that is averaging only 13.2 points per game.
The front office stripped Zorn of the play-calling role following Sunday's 14-6 loss to previously winless Kansas City. The Redskins are 2-4, and they have failed to score a touchdown in two of their home games.
Two weeks ago, Lewis was enjoying retirement in Michigan, calling Bingo games at a senior center and delivering Meals on Wheels. He previously spent 22 years as an NFL assistant and was originally hired as a consultant for the Redskins' offense.
The move is a blow for Zorn, who feels he had a knack for calling plays.

The only trend I see is you picking teams that are playing the 3 or 4 of the worst teams in football. KC, Oakland, Detroit and St. Louis. I use the same trend in my suicide pool.
As a former bookie let me clue you in on something. Teams very rarely cover 15+ point spreads. So that trend is not one to follow if you want to make money.

the reason they do it in week 6, or one of the reasons i guess, is cuz usually (this year withstanding) most teams aren't completely out of it. if they wait til 10 or 11, they fear a lot of teams will sell everything and tank and shift the competitive balance too much.
