Dierdorf after Manning drops to the ground to avoid the hit but takes he loss of yards :

That may be the smartest thing Manning has ever done.

Really ?

In his 13+ year career avoiding a hard hit on a sack is the smartest thing he's ever done ?

He's never one avoided a big hit rom another good defensive player ?

Melodramatic much ?

epo

That was a great play.

And it probably was Baltimore's chance to get into this game.

Snoogans, the only thing I can think on that Ray Lewis hit @ the end of the 1st half is that their helmets actually hit.

I think if maybe Lewis gets more shoulder pad than helmet they don't call it.

Tough call.

And the Ravens are not good enough offensively to go for it on 4th down ever unless it's the 4th quarter and they need it.

UPDATE : Unless Manning's gonna throw a pick.

2nd UPDATE : Especially if Ed Reed follows that INT w/ a fumble.

from the other angle it looked mostly shoulder, but even still helmet to helmet is not a penalty unless its QB or DEFENSELESS receiver. If the receiver has the ball its not a penalty, just a fine

JimBeam

Yeah sucks for Ed Reed.

2 picks w/ 30+ yards returned both negated.

I had guests during the Saints game and couldn't post but I hated that roughing the QB call on Warner.

Obviously it was the right call, as the rules call for, but it's kinda ironic that the same call was not made last week when the Cardinals benefited from it and won a game.

Ok. We get it. Matt Stover has a history with Baltimore.

Huge play.

I'm partial and while his play might not have been as dramatic, and I'm personally not a fan, but Shockey seemed to be playing through some pain on a few plays for the Saints and helped them get back into a game.

Ed Reed may have 2 of the biggest plays that will go unrecognized.

They may be small gains but in the big picture they'd help their teams chances.

I'm sure it helped but to say emphatically, and to the point, that the rest in that game was why they won is complete hyperbole

Plus how many of the defenders that had big plays in this game rested in either of their last 2 regular season games ?

It's not like Freeney and Mathis had 4 sacks a piece in this game.

Gaines Adams...DEAD

Bears player Gaines Adams, 26, is dead, according to a report by the Greenville News of South Carolina.

Adams, a former Clemson University football star, died Sunday morning after he was taken to the Emergency Room at Self Regional in Greenwood, County Coroner James T. Coursey told the Greensville News.

Though on the Fox pregame show just now, Jay Glaser said he was "found dead," so that sounds like he was dead before he got to the ER.

Yeah, they get close, then do something stupid. So far we've had good drives stalled by a Romo fumble, and by two stupid calls by Wade Phillips: trying for a 48 yard FG with a terrible kicker, and inexplicably deciding to give the Wildcat a try as they're nearing the goal line.

Bottom line is if they kick that ball deep, the jets are even more conservative and DON'T EVEN THINK of going for it on 4th. All in all Rivers had that one real bad throw, but he drove the team down the field for a TD and short FG attempt (AGAIN) that should have been for the tie or more. I can't even blame him.

So, talk radio talking points aside, what's everyone think about this game? The Jets definitely deserve respect for going into SD and winning, but a few things (NOTE I'm biased as a Colts fan)

- The Colts are playing two similar teams, two weeks in a row. They handled a good offensive line and running game very well against the Ravens.
- Jets have a great defense, but when they needed to stop SD on that last drive, they were completely non-existant, eventhough they had help from Vincent Jackson stupidity.
- Sanchez has proven nothing. He's going to be good one day, but not yet. He's still very much a rookie QB and the Colts pass defense is one of the best in the league.

These arguments are meaningless. There were 500 reasons the Jets should have lost in San Diego, but they didn't. Just curious to hear others opinions.

Good point by Boomer...if the Chargers kick deep, the Jets HAVE to punt on 4th down...that ended up being huge.

I don't understand the onside kick decision at all. They had a timeout and the 2-minute warning left and besides one big run, the Jets offense was silent all day. Boomer was 100% correct, 4th and 1 on their own 29 and there's no way they go for it. What a stupid call, cost them the game. It's funny because Belichek caught so much shit for going on 4th down vs. the Colts in the regular season, but in my opinion this decision was SO much worse.

Couple of opinions (Jets Season ticket holder since 1960)

The coach even admitted in the post game they eased up on the last scoring drive trying to work the clock a bit. He even apoligized to the fans for it:laugh:
Colts receivers and TE dont scare the Jets as much as SD receivers and TE did. SD guys were getting open early but adjustments were made and shut down occured.
Sanchez limits mistakes He made only one yesterday.
Jets did get to see 2 1/2 quarters of Colts a couple weeks ago so there is familiarity to a certain extent.
You guys have Peyton Manning we dont.

Id like to see a good game I dont see a blowout one way or another.

I've said this many times. The only reason the Colts won Saturday night was because the Ravens gave it away via fumbles and mistakes, NOT because the Colts handily beat them.

This makes no sense. You're acting like turnovers aren't part of a football game. When you hold a team to 3 points and score 20 you handily beat them.

That game was over by the end of the 3rd quarter.

The Ed Reed INT / fumble completely changed the flow of the game.

I'm not saying turnovers aren't part of the game, but an INT into a fumble is a very very rare play. That plus the Rice fumble could have completely changed the flow.

We'll see what happens. I'm sick of this shit that the Colts weren't trying and the Jets didn't deserve to be in and all this other shit. The Colts pulled their players with a lead, fine, you have that.

The Jets fucking WALLOPED the Bengals in Week 17 and the only reason the starters came out was because of 1) Welker's injury earlier that day 2) it was fucking 15 degrees and 3) The game was meaningless to the Bengals and the Jets had established a huge lead against their first team.

You want to talk about Free pass, fine they got one agains the Colts. But the Jets still had to win Week 17. That's not a free pass.

Im not sure I understand this statement. What was worse? Rex Ryan going for it on 4th down? Or Norv Turner trying the onside kick?

If you meant Turner, I totally agree. If you meant Ryan, you couldnt be more wrong.

Agreed. The Jets were deep in SD territory on a fourth down. San Diego had no time outs at that point and less than a minute to get down the field to tie, not win, the game, with a kicker who already missed three.

Jets kick the FG, they force SD to score a TD, but they are still giving the ball back to them.

The Belichick fourth down play was deep in their own territory.

It was a higher percentage to get one yard than it would be to kick a high-pressure FG and then give the ball back with a minute to play. Rivers vs. the Giants earlier this year comes to mind.

Pretty much how I see it, although I'd add that Colts also have Freeney who could blow up any passing offense.
I'm a Jet fan who sees a probable 27-20 Colt win, but, if like the SD game, the lower the score the better the Jets chances. Remember no one had kept SD below 20 points this season before Sunday.
