Something sick deep inside of me wants the Vikings to slip to the 3 seed....and have Green Bay be the 6 seed.
If the Packers play against Favre in the playoffs ESPN will lose money because of the fines they'll have to pay after the Sportscenter hosts masturbate on national television for a week straight.
Green Bay has head-to-head tiebreak with Dallas.
So if Dallas wins tonight and loses to Philadelphia next week, and Green Bay loses to Arizona, they both finish 10-6 with Green Bay holding the tiebreaker.
Eagles win #2 outright, Cards and Vikings finish tied, with Cards getting the #3 via tiebreaker.
Fair enough, let the Vikings fall to #4.
This just into the FridaysNet Newsroom: Jealous of Urban Meyer's heart issue, BRETTFAVRE announced that he has brain cancer. And AIDS.
He's probable for next week.
Spyreport, spyreport:
Brad Childress refuses to shake Brett Favre's AIDS infested hand....is there internal turmoil in Minnesota????...updates on the fours....stay tuned for more breaking news....

Im with Kevin. Fuck Indy. They are a disgrace. I hope they get knocked the fuck out by Cincinatti.
I have no problem with resting your starters except for one small reason...THEY HAD A CHANCE TO MAKE HISTORY. They owed it to their fans to at least try. If they lost legit so be it. By their logic the '72 Dolphins record should never be challenged unless a team of backups can win 3 straight NFL games.
If I was a Colts season ticket holder Id be fucking livid today.
As far as the Cowboys go, Im rooting for them tonight so next week the Eagles can be the one to stick the dagger in them. Kinda like last year.

So what happens if Peyton stays in the game and gets his ankle rolled or something?
An undefeated season is just added bullshit when you're going for a championship. You don't get a bigger trophy. It just adds more pressure to the situation and makes you look even worse when you fail.
Yeah, it's a nice thing to have, but it is by no means guaranteed. If the Colts wanted to be undefeated so badly, they should have been up by three touchdowns before the half.

Again: If Peyton knew he was getting pulled after the first half, then you give your team as much as an opportunity to win.
You are playing THE BEST DEFENSE IN THE NFL. You have no idea if Peyton could get injured. You protect him to give you the best shot to win the championship.
If the Colts went 16-0 but lost Peyton for the playoffs... pretty fucking stupid.

I agree. Ask Tom Brady if hed rather have gone 15-1 with a superbowl win or 16-0. If I was Colts a season ticket holder I'd be pretty happy my team is one of the best run in football.

Exactly. Stop this "undefeated" dick sucking. Absolutely no guarantee that if you go 16-0 in the playoffs you get 3 more wins to lock it up in the playoffs.
Peyton is already going to the Hall of Fame and has a ring. The only thing that going undefeated does is giving him a one-up on Brady, which doesn't really mean a lot.

My fantasy championship game blew today, I had Peyton, Indy benches him, Ricky Williams and Tony Gonzalez got hurt and Ochocinco and Smith had TD's taken back by penalty's.
Even with all of that happening I only lost by 13 and if I just started Jerome Harrison over Williams I would have won.

Sorry. But in my opinion if you have a chance of making history, you go for it. You throw all the conventional wisdom that goes into resting for the playoffs out the window and you try to win every game until you lose. Its something thats never been done before. Why wouldnt you want to go for that????
Tom Brady had that fucking record. They didnt go 19-0 because of 2 fluke plays, not because they hadnt rested there starters. You cant make that comparison. And Id be willing to bet if youd ask Tom Brady if he would give up two of his other Super Bowl titles for 1 where his team went 19-0 and hed take the one.

Indy has a great track record in the playoffs after taking off the last 2 weeks of the regular season.
If there's ever been a team that has needed to play EVERY game like it means something, it's Indy.
Enjoy losing the first playoff game.

Again: IT'S NOT ABOUT RESTING, IT'S ABOUT PREVENTING INJURY.
If the Colts were playing some middle-tier defense I could see the issue, but they were playing the best defense in the NFL. What happens if Peyton gets sacked and gets a shoulder separated or something?
If Peyton wanted to be undefeated so badly, he would have willed his team to be up three scores.

they're only a top ranked defense because most teams only have to go 25 yards to score on them when Sanchez throws picks at his own 20.

Ok, either way, New England didnt lose their Super Bowl because of an injury they received while trying to go undefeated either.
Peyton Manning can get sacked and hurt at any point of any game. Regardless of the defense. If you are going to commit to trying to go undefeated, then commit all the way. You dont half ass it by going out for a half and claim to worry about getting fucking injured. If they were so concerned, why put him out there at all?

But if you asked Brady and Belichick to replay that season, they're still going for 19-0. There's no way Brady is sitting.
And if you asked Manning, he would have been playing, too.

I think the NFL should work out some way to let the city of New Orleans own the team, much the same way the city of Green Bay owns the Packers.
But, then again, who knows what kind of shady shit would happen after that. The Saints would end up in a pawn shop or something.

There are 32 halves in football.
Sitting him 2 halves would reduce his chance to get injured over 6% right? My math is terrible. And I think they play him the half so he doesn't get stale.

Math is a little flawed. You're using flat statistics, but not involving probability into the mix and how it would affect a championship run.

I believe they showed a stat yesterday on the NFL network that showed the colts total failure when they have clinched at this point and rest their starters and they have won i think one or two playoff games in that 6 year span
The only succesful year was the year they won the superbowl and that year they didnt rest anyone
And Mark Schlereth was interviewed and basically said that the first round bye is teh week they can be rested. The colts are just screwing themselves again by doing this

Its like Dave always says, the years they cruised through the regular season they choked in the playoffs. Those were the years they rested. The year they won the bowl they had to fight to make the playoffs so they played the whole season.
So now that they lost they have absolutely nothing to play for next week....then they have the bye. Its going to be like a month since they last played football. How much fucking rest do you need?
I really hope Cincy knocks them out. Pussy moves in football usually come back to bite you in the end. Im hoping thats what happens here.

Last year more than this.

This year the young Wrs played really well and the prob was the D.
In the long run i think the Plax thing is a blessing.
He was an aging Diva Wr, who showed signs of breaking down.
If he was here, we prob do not draft Nicks, who at 20 looks like he is going to be a special player. And prob not Barden either, who when they do fucking decide to play him, at 6'6 with speed, could be very good to.
The Giants are pretty good on offense, everyone is pretty young.

i really cant believe how the gians have been mirroring the cowboys the past two seasons, they lead the NFC in wins like the cowboys did the year before and get bounced out in their first playoff game(like the boys). THEN this year they get blown out to get knocked out of the playoff race like the cowboys did last year. If i was a giants fan i'd be hoping the cowboys win the superbowl this year

Dallas Cowboys (10-5) – Clinched playoff berth with win at Washington. Would be No. 2 seed with win and Arizona loss and two Minnesota losses. Would be No. 3 seed with win and either Arizona loss or two Minnesota losses. Would be No. 4 seed with win and Minnesota win and Arizona win. Would be No. 6 seed with loss (Would be No. 5 seed with tie and Green Bay loss).

Can divisional teams play each other in the 1st round?
Yup.
The Chargers are looking like that team you don't want to meet in the playoffs.
A Chargers/Colts AFC championship game would be one hell of a game.
The Chargers will beat the Colts in Indy for the AFC Championship and will go on to win the Lombardi Trophy in Miami. Norv Turner will then in turn give Dan Snyder the BaFanGu on National Television
http://t2.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ZDnqiKN52MP0CM:http://www.fugly.com/media/IMAGES/Random/angry_old_lady.jpg
I'm probably thinking baseball.
It used to be way back when in the days of old that Divisional teams that survived the tourney would not meet until the Championship Game. In 1990 is when the NFL expanded the playoffs by adding a "third" wild card team, thus expanding the format to 12 teams. Then realignment was implemented in 2002 with the creation of North and South Divisions and the elimination of the Central Division. This is why now it is possible for a Division Champ to host a Wild Card with a better record. Back to the original question before 1990 the NFL Playoffs were seeded so that teams from the same division would not meet until the Conference Championship Game.

I hate to ever agree with Matty, but its a perfect example of why teams minimize risk in the NFL whenever possible.
I still think it's kind of pussy to rest your players last week, but I won't say a word about any team that rests players this week.

What pissed me off more was ESPN doing a piece on Gooddell seeking "incentives" for teams to play their starters and someone saying it was more damning than preseason. Fuck THAT.
Being undefeated is one thing, but there's no guarantee of that. If you've locked up everything you're supposed to lock up, home game or not, sit the fucking starters, ESPECIALLY IF YOU PLAY ON TURF.
The Patriots are playing for something, which is why Welker was playing, but you minimize the risk to maximize the rewards.

But the colts had nothing left to play for except being undefeated, which was no guarantee.
As I said before, if the Colts are/were so good, Peyton shoulda hung three scores on them before going to the bench. Peyton had a shit game to begin with and it was still a pretty close game when he went out.

Look, I know WHY they rested their starters, I just dont agree with it. You dont thumb your nose at history. Thats just how I feel. If I was coaching, Manning and the rest of the starters wouldve vbeen in their until the Colts were up 3 tds. And if they didnt get up that much they wouldve played the whole game.
The chance at making history is worth the risk of injury. Thats my feeling on the situation and it wont change.

Are the Pats undefeated too? Damn I haven't been paying attention enough.
it proves the point even better than if they were. they already had a first round game secured and had really nothing to gain in this game, but still went with their starters, to their detriment.

I'm glad buffalo will be done after this week. This year was fucking awful. I've never once been let down by a team than this year as a bills fan. I completely gave up watching or caring about how they did about 5 weeks ago. Fucking disgraceful.
I'm not even looking forward to next year. They'll suck just as bad then. At least they beat the jets once this year.

what were they playing for? their the 3 or 4 seed, no matter what. they don't get a bye, but get a home game - they don't even know who will be the remaining playoff teams, so you can't even argue they're trying to win to get an easier opponent.

That's different than "they're pussies".
What I actually said is "Its a pussy move" and it is. And after watching today its a fucking move I REALLY dont understand.
How the fuck do you pull your starters last game out of fear of injury, and then make Peyton Manning go out there today, in a truly meaningless game, and throw 18 passes in the 1st quarter before pulling him. What was the point of that???
And Matty, when you say "All they were playing for was a chance to go undefeated"....thats more then enough. Nothing is ever guaranteed. So you play to win, and if you lose you lose because they beat you, not because you beat yourself.
The Giants don't look like they are thinking about their golf games...they look like they've already got mud on their clubs.

That can be summed up by one thing: Bill Bellichick's ego. It cost them in the Indy game (fuck this shit that it was a statistically sound move, we all know the reason he did it) and now it's cost them their 2nd best receiver.

I dont think the guys a genius. I just think hes a good head coach. I think for the most part coaches are given too much credit when winning and too much blame when losing but thats just my own personal opinion.
I mean by that logic the same can be said about Chuck Knoll, Tom Landry, Jimmy Johnson, Bill Walsh and most coaches.
In Belichecks defense though, even though he had Brady all those years, he had to make due, for the most part, with other offensive players most people never even heard of. Anyone remember Troy Brown???
