Bestselling author and fan-favorite Timothy Zahn will return to the Expanded Universe of Star Wars novels with a new full-length story to be published by Del Rey Books in 2011. The new tale of intrigue and action is set in the time of classic Star Wars trilogy, not long after the events of his previous novel, Allegiance. The legendary heroes return -- Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia and Chewbacca -- along with some of Zahn's most popular creations: Thrawn, Mara Jade and the Hand of Judgment stormtroopers.

The book is as yet untitled, but is slated to debut in fall of 2011, the year that marks the 20th anniversary of his first Star Wars novel, Heir to the Empire, the blockbuster book that launched the modern era of Star Wars publishing.

I cannot fucking wait. The original Thrawn trilogy is still one of the finest Star Wars stories ever told, IMHO.

If this were 10 years ago I would be excited.

Forgive my sarcasm, but trust me as a devoted Star Wars fan of the novels, I find little to be excited about. In the Bantam days all the novels were free-for-alls. One author had different ideas of where all the characters can go. But I have to admit I am a fan of the Del Rey era where there MUST be consistency between the books and how the books must relate to each other. The Del Rey era produced the whole New Jedi Order/Yuuzhan Vong series, which in my opinion was phenomenal.

But the ALL the series they have done since has been sub-par. The only shining light in the whole Del Rey era, Post NJO series, is the backstory to Thrawn; a novel known as "Outbound Flight." That explained the whole genesis of Thrawn's character in the empire and how he knew of Joruus C'Baoth from his original trilogy.

I admit I love the Thrawn character and the elaboration on the Chiss (Thrawn's species)...hell the last Bantam books gave great insight into the Chiss, and even Lucas ripped off aspects of the species in Episode II (He refered to the Geonosians as being Xenophobic.) I guess I have had my excitement tempered by all the sub-par novels since, but will still read this Thrawn book nonetheless.

PS...dont go out of your way to read the "Millenium Falcon" book. It is basically Indiana Jones IV with the Millenium Falcon and a young girl on board to witness it all.

I've never read any of his books but I don't like him just because my last name is similar to his and people always spell my name like his.

I guess that's not really a reason to dislike someone, but I don't give a shit.

Zahn's books were just ok, but they were the first Star Wars story in 10 years, so we all gave it alot more leeway than we should have.

Still not interested in reading it. No interest in most of the EU garbage.

I'm not as excited as I would have been prior to the Star Wars prequels. The prequels essentially made the Zahn books out of Star Wars canon, which they were prior to the movies.

Does zahns first books start off where rotj left off? Or is it a total new take on the star wars story?

I'm really looking for a new book or series of books to get into.

I'm really looking for a new book or series of books to get into.

They happened a year or two (I think) after ROTJ.

The premise is that the new Republic is still cleaning up the remains of the Imperial forces, when suddenly they encounter a brilliant Imperial admiral.

The original Zahn trilogy took place 5 years after ROTJ.
