The Killers have thrown down the gauntlet to American music fans, declaring they will knock Led Zeppelin and Nirvana "off their pedestals".
The Las Vegas band are currently in the middle of a north American tour, and frontman Brandon Flowers has told NME.COM he will use the dates to help repeat the success the band have already enjoyed in Britain. But first, they'll have to overcome the US public's listening prejudices.
"We’ve been embraced in Britain in a way that I’ll never understand, and it’s such a wonderful thing," he declared. "But over here [in America], people are still so obsessed with Led Zeppelin and Nirvana, those sorts of bands, that nobody else is allowed [to grow]."
He added: "It’s not just us; there are a lot of great bands that have been held down or confined by the influence of these people that we’ve put up on pedestals. I’m tired of it, you know? I just want to knock them all off! And people don’t like that attitude. It’s almost like they don’t believe that it’s possible that anybody else can be the real deal.
"It doesn’t matter how many great songs we write or how many great shows we play. But we’re slowly chipping away at it. With this last album ['Day And Age'], there’s been a noticeable shift but we’re still nowhere near where we are in Europe."

The Killers are mentally unstable.

Though I do like that Springsteen ripoff song.

Do you mean their entire catalog?

"Are we human? Or are we dancers?"

Yeah, sounds like the real deal to me.

They should just be glad they're big in Europe rather than point fingers about why they aren't bigger in the states.

Well, they started off more as a New Order ripoff. Then they had that one sorta-Springsteen-y song on the first album. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k6ERe23kSBM) I actually enjoyed that one, too.

Then the first single off the next album might as well have been blowing Bruce. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EVCkSMwaGGc) Supposedly the rest of the album sounded just as Bruce-y, but I never heard it.

The stuff I heard from the latest album sounds like it's just going back to the boring electro-pop they were doing in the first place.

If only the motherfucking Kings of Leon had stayed that way.

Also, since when is Zeppelin or Nirvana on any pedestal still? He should be more angry at the fact Lady GaGa's music is more popular then theirs. That's the real problem; all those manufactured pop artists that American kids eat up like lifesavers. Also could go into detail about how the record companies over here are completely different and don't give a shit about anyone trying to make silly music with real instruments.

Also, having a huge fan base overseas isn't anything to brag about, those fuckers will latch onto anything that pays any attention to them.

Disagree. Lambchop is my favorite band ever and without their European following I doubt they'd have music careers at all.

Yeah, I can't even think of how many awesome American bands have been able to keep making musi becase they're "big overseas" somewhere and pretty much off the radar here. Plus all the awesome bands around the world that never make a dent here. In short, the idea that only bands that have decent US followings are any good is kinda retarded.
