My wife and I are traveling this summer and would like a very small, slim digital camera for her to carry in her purse. Any one have any luck with any in particular?

When you live in Boston, "traveling" means going to Foxboro for a preseason game.

my chick has this fuji camera (http://www.fujifilm.com/products/digital_cameras/z/finepix_z20fd/index.html)
take really awesome photos. the only problem that i can say is that scrolling through the photos is a little slow and annoying, but the quality of photos it takes outweighs that in my opinion.
edit: the Z100 on that same page looks pretty nice as well.

Oh, so when the good ol' USA is suffering, you take your tourism dollars to foreign countries. I see how it is. Communist.

and you really can't beat canon's picture quality. I've used nothing but Canons for most of my life.

This was actually the exact camera I've been looking at.

I'm trying to get on the good side of the countries that will someday own the US.

They're really hard to beat with cameras. I've always had good luck with them. My buddy has a really slim sony camera, though. And he loves it.

I have used Nikons for most of my adult life. Love the Nikon but if I were to buy a portable digital I would certainly opt for a Canon. Great optics and their software is a bit better than Nikon imho.
Hell, if I were to buy a DSLR new I would get a Canon, I bought Nikon since I already have a fortune in lenses that fit my old cameras.
Also, buy.com (http://www.buy.com/) is a great friend to me.

canons are great, especially if you want to take great pictures without really knowing what you're doing.
and most have a lot of manual controls a few clicks away in case you do have an inclination on how to use it.

I saw a cell phone that is more camera than phone..granted, it only has 8 mega pixels.. it looked cool, but you often lose something when they come out with stuff like that..it was a joint venture with Kodak.
My sister and her kids love the HD Flip..camcorder I sent them for Xmas. I dunno how good the camera function works..
Try Consumer Reports and Kim Komando websites for the best ones.

Here's your camera. There's a newer generation available, I think, but you don't need anything more than this. Great looking files, Leica lens, deep optical zoom and either fully automatic or with a little tweaking it has a lot of adjustable functionality.
It also takes really nice looking video for a camera in this category.
Lumix DMC-FS5. $170 give or take.

I swear by my Fuji F30. It takes the sharpest pictures of any other point and shoot I tested.

Canon Powershot SD 790 IS (http://reviews.cnet.com/digital-cameras/canon-powershot-sd790-is/4505-6501_7-32896595.html)
got it from e-cost for less than 200 and it's been great so far.
I tested out the Nikon Coolpix 220 and returned it after a week as all images were very grainy especially any indoor pictures.
