never heard of pancake mountain, but YGG is a great show. downloaded the album and each song is in my iphone top 25 most played songs. the adults enjoy it and it really works on the kid as well.

Never seen YGG, but I've been a Pancake Mnt. fan for years. Brenden Canty, the drummer from Fugazi and the director of the new Wilco doc, had something to do w/ it. The concept of the show (a dance party for the little brothers and sisters of the older kids) is actually borrowed from "Kiddie A Go Go" out of Chicago.

About the same time Pancake Mountain debuted in DC, another show in New York debuted which took the old Kiddie A Go Go concept, and made it more demented - "Ghoul A Go Go" - they eventually got picked up by access stations all over the country - The Cramps were quoted as to being fans of the show - this clip is just awesome...!

They've only done about 14 or 15 episodes over the last 10 years - mostly on cable access around the country, but also on the "Something Weird" OnDemand channel. One of their musical guests were the "5-6-7-8's" (from Kill Bill)

The Backyardigans are a bunch of queers. A pack of ethnically diverse, colorful, animals singing repetitive songs about being knights, mermaids, or whatever. Maybe I'm biased because I step on a little plastic Pablo penguin almost every time I get up to pee in the night.
