Step 1) Don't let the federal police search you without warrant

Step 2) Get your car destroyed, get tasered, get beaten

http://www.kpho.com/news/19207871/detail.html

Is this what this country is coming to? Christians now being dragged onto the street and beaten in public all for not bowing to the federal government?

I wonder how long until they are pulled out of their churches and have the same things happen to them.

We have no power against what the police under the command of Obama are doing to citizens now. Either you do what they want or they will destroy you.

Yes, please, take one side of a story and assume you have the whole story. Very intelligent of you.

And it's a problem if Christians are dragged out of their cars? It's okay for a Jew or a Muslim to be treated that way?

I'm going to guess that over enthusiastic border patrol agents near Mexico aren't big Obama fans.

Something is up with this story.

Why did he instantly refuse to answer any of their questions? That's kind of suspicious. I'm not going to say 'If you have nothing to hide you have nothing to worry about' here because I don't agree with that thinking either, but if he hadn't have been so weird right off the bat he might have just kept going that day.

It also doesn't say if the found anything in his car. I would think he'd mention "and they didn't even find anything!" to the reporters if that was actually the case. I bet they found something.

There's other stuff too. If the law enforcement officials put you under arrest, you don't have the right to fight them right there. This article is severely one sided.

Very true, I didn't even consider that part of it. Why would you fight the cops ANYWHERE? Right or wrong there's a bunch of them and one of you. Now that they've decided you're coming with them, they're not going to change their mind. Just go with them, it looks much less suspicious, they'll be nicer to you and you won't get your face put in glass.

I'd be pissed too if I had actually done nothing wrong, but you have to stay cool at that point.

From another right wing story: (http://www.salem-news.com/articles/april222009/az_bp_beating_4-21-09.php)

Anderson is what you could call a Civil Rights Crusader, and he sticks to his 4th Amendment Right that grants him protection from illegal search and seizure. It is generally known simply as a person's right to privacy.

He stated to the Border Patrol agents over and over that he was not going to roll his window down; he simply wanted to be allowed to drive away. He asked if he was being detained repeatedly and asked if they had a search warrant.

"I have a copy of the Constitution in my backpack," he told the increasingly irritated agents.

So from what I'm reading is that this guy is a 4th Amendment zealot, which is perfectly fine.

He then goes to the border and won't follow the process at the border because of his perception of rights. Chaos ensues.....

Am I reading this wrong?

Exactly. If I remember my bar studies correctly, you can be convicted of resisting arrest, even if it's later found that the arrest is improper.

Our society won't function if people have the right to resist law enforcement. You can challenge their actions later in court.

This isn't what our country is coming to, this is where our country has been since 1996. In 1996, congress passed IRA96 (Immigration Reform Act of 1996) which empowered the boarder patrol under INS then and CBP now to conduct warrantless searches within 25 miles of a land boarder and while on the foot print of a seaport or airport.

its actually not at the border of mexico, its up outside of yuma arizona. its definitely near the border, but he was traveling to and from arizona/california the entire time. is the guy a douche? yeah. but so are the cops or agents who decided to smash his car and his face because of a "false positive" they got from a drug dog. they were basically pissed cause he would always pull the 4th amendment on the checkpoint, they wouldnt want to let him through, and each party would waste the others time until he'd inevitably get to pass. cept this time

Without knowing all the facts, it appears the cops were in the right. The alert from the dog allows the officers to do a warrantless search.

It is unclear from the article if the alert came immediately or after the hour wait. If it was after the hour wait, then the search may have been a violation.

What gets me is that he was at a checkpoint-now while I'm never a fan of these things, once I'm stuck in one I'm compliant. Because saying "no" at a checkpoint automatically gets you arrested in Jersey.
If this guy had a problem with this-he should have complied with the checkpoint officers and then sued the state at a later date.

It also looks like the article is just using his position as pastor of a church to give some false impression that he was being "persecuted" by the cops. I didn't get from his story about what happened that the police dragged him out of his car because he was a Christian and needed to be punished for that. Instead it looks like the dummy told a cop "no" and got what everyone else gets when they say "no" to a cop, a tuneup.

My best friend is a Border Patrol Supervisor and I know a ton of them. I've been through that checkpoint a couple hundred times. This guy was a douchebag for refusing to do what federal officers tell him to do. If the dog hit on his vehicle, that gives them the right to search his vehicle. If he causes this kind of problem, he deserves what he got. Btw, BP agents don't use tasers and most of them are conservative leaning people. The guys I know are cringing at Obama, but are happy they are getting a raise, as well.

Its actually uncool to be a Christian these days.

I don't know about that. In my little part of the world, my church is growing all the time with new members and people becoming Christians every week. And all we do is study the Bible. I have attended off and on for a few years, and have decided to go there regularly now. We as a family have been attending regularly now for about 3 months, including Wednesday night Bible studies for me and my wife and youth group for the kids.
Not one thing political has been stated from the pulpit. All my pastor cares about is reaching out to the people in our area and doing his duty as a pastor to convert them, and to get Christians in the church to grow spiritually in our walk with God.
I find the wacky churches that equate "end times" with certain US policies regarding public safety and national security to be the ones suffering from a lack of attendance. Churches that stick to Bible study and community service are the ones that are growing bigger all the time.
This guy as a pastor is a failure in my opinion. He is on this interview more concerned about his personal liberty then he is about his duty as a pastor which is to preach the gospel. If this is what his daily concern is, I'm afraid his sermons are lacking the research needed to be able to truly teach his congregation what the Christian life here on earth is supposed to be.
What if Jesus had been like this preacher? When He was nailed on the cross, He looked down on those who had spent the day violating His "human rights" and said, "Father forgive them, for they know not what they do." He could have come down off the cross and punished the Roman soldiers who beat him and the religious leaders who set him up to be crucified. He didn't. He had a job to do, which was more important then arguing about the law.
If my pastor had done something like that, I would seriously question his ability to be the leader of our church. The law is the law, and when laws go against what is percieved to be Constitutionally protected rights, you allow at the moment law enforcement officers to do their job, then later you take what you perceive a violation of the Constitution to a court where judges can decide whether or not that law is Constitutional or not.
