New flick I'm looking forward to. The Brothers Bloom is a film written and directed by Rian Johnson who wrote and directed Brick. It stars Mark Ruffalo, Adrien Brody, and Rachel Weisz. It will have a limited release on May 15, 2009, and expand into wide release two weeks later on May 29.

Here's the first 7 minutes.

The voice over is Magnolia-esque even using Ricky Jay. I hope it doesn't try to out Wes Anderson Wes Anderson.

I really liked Brick and think Rian Johnson can be a great director. I just hope this is more of an homage than a rip off but I think he'll do right. Brick was a really interesting take on noir. I hope this is a new take on con movies.

Seeing it tomorrow night. It just came to the indie theater near me. I think it'll be awesome.

Finally saw it yesterday. I loved it.

It's a globetrotting con story, with a little bit of romance, with the quirky style of Wes Anderson sprinkled in. Beautiful scenery, well crafted story and well acted. Rachel Weisz and Mark Ruffalo really stood out for me. They were fantastic.

Is it a completely new take on a con movie? No, but it stands on its own with the performances and visuals. Almost like Brick in that respect. Not completely new ground but extremely enjoyable for what it is.

And I loved the score too. It was like an Arrested Development-y jazz mash up. Go see it

I just finished watching a copy of this and was blown away.
Great "caper" flick that smokes the Ocean's series and stands up
to The Sting.

Kicking soundtrack, amazing sets, believable character chemistry, great plot twists.
Might rank as my new favorite Adrian Brody film.

Young Mark Ruffalo (Stephen) struck me as a young Ron Bennington.
His quote seemed to apply to my thoughts on the last hour of todays show:

"The perfect con is one where everyone involved gets just the thing they wanted."

I have to check out Rian Johnson's Brick next.
