My neice was having trouble with her computer with saving Word files. I know she is always reluctant to scan for virus' and so she got so frustrated trying to save the file she called me to take a look at it. I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't save and came to the conclusion that her system was corrupted. I asked her when was the last time she ran a scan and she was like..over a year ago!
She said that snce she really needed this file she was going to go get a brand new computer. So she went and bought this nice shiny new HP laptop. All she did was drag the files into a memory stick and put them into the new computer! I warned her that that is follish because the files, if corrupted will effect the new computer and she should scan them before installing. Do you think she did it? Hell no!
My father has the same reluctance. I showed him dozens of time how to check for new updates and scan the computer, and he never does it. Says it takes too long.
Why are people so stupid? Do you people like this?

I scan viruses daily on all my computers. My inlaws can't understand why their computer runs "so damn slow" all of a sudden. I mentioned anti virus , spyware and they roll their eyes. "I don't go look at porno" my father in law says to me

Last night I had multiple programs scanning my computer for about four hours. I do it about once a month and it makes a big difference.
Push scan and go watch TV.
People are lazy and stupid.

does it really make a difference?
Especially if you dont find anything?
Computers get viruses?
I've never gotten one in over 10 years.
Oh yeah...I have a Mac! :bye:

It finds tracking cookies. Very rare to find a virus on my PC, but I do visit a lot of lets say questionable websites.
Here's what I do monthly to make sure my PC is running at it's best.
-Windows Update
-Go through my folders and get rid of unneeded files
-Clear Private Data on Firefox
-Delete Browsing History on IE
-Run disk clean up on both drives
-Run CCleaner
-Run Spybot Search and Destroy
-Run Ad Aware
-Scan AVG
-Disk Defrag
-Use Autoruns and have only the necessary programs running

Reality to shitty board characters: Macs do get malware.

I try to run a full, deep virus scan once a week. I scan EVERY file I download from anywhere, even from people's E-mails I trust. I try to do spyware scans like once a month, more if I've been downloading a lot.
I check to see if the system recommends a defrag like once a month. I'll run a check disc like once or twice a year if I remember.
It is very easy, even if you don't leave your comp on all the time and therefore can't schedule scans, just start scans on the weekends and then walk way for a couple hours.
Very easy maintenance, it will help keep your computer running.

Avast: constant scanning but I scan everything I download and do a complete system scan twice a month.
Malwarebytes: once a week
Defrag only when needed. 1.75 terabytes across 7 drives can be complicated.
CCcleaner: once a week
That's it. My system is almost always on, reboots every three days and other than the occasional tracking cookie I have been clean.

People are dumb. They say "it takes to much time" even though there is probably countless hours of the day they aren't using the thing. I run my PC pretty much 24/7 and set it to auto scan at 4am.
Also, even though avast does automatic on the fly scanning of new files, I still NEVER assume it's actually doing it. So everytime I download something I right click "Scan with Avast" anyway just to make sure.
But yeah, I'll never understand why people don't. It's really not that hard.

It's basic maintenance. You take your car to get tuned up or it's oil changed, right? You clean out your fridge every week or so to check for old food right? You shower and shave, correct? You clean your house/apartment when it's dirty hopefully.
Computer scans are just another maintenance issue you need to address to keep it running well. A computer is a tool that needs to be greased so to speak.

Exactly Moe. I bet the people that do not vastly outnumber those that do and the assholes who make the virus's are preying on those people and the spread is most likely because of those people.

Sure. And those people keep jackoffs like "The Geek Squad" in business. They are just people with emergency boot discs and free software you download off the net that regular computer users don't know about.
Do some virus scans, back up your data with that DVD burner you paid for but never use and you'll save yourself a lot of money.

They are also the bunch of assholes who keep the anti-malware groups in business primarily because the anti-MS/bored hackers feed off them (the dumb).
Security bulletin makes the news and very few of these fucks make sure anything is up to date, yet they inadvertently open a chain email with an .exe file infecting them and spreading to other in boxes. Fuckos.

That Confiker (sp) worm probably would not have a tenth of its impact if people took the time to keep their pc up to date and scan it.

Word up. I never understand the whole, "It takes too long" thing. Set it to run daily while you sleep. Same thing with Defrag and other nifty tools. We've had PC's long enough to know they're not going to set themselves on fire if left unattended, so just do it already!
Dude!

I've seen the peoples computer we speak of.
Their systray usually spans 1/2 the taskbar, desktop icons arranged by penis, at least 3 toolbars installed in the browser, installed every quick launch application for every useless webpage imaginable, bookmarks for shitty ringtone sites and myspace, and applications you never knew existed before and do the same shit w/ ads that is already native to windows.
