Dont know if a thread like this exists and if so just needs to be merged.
Just chilling out watching stuff on TV, and a few movies were on that I was watching. One of them is "The Departed". I know Opie and Anthony did a whole bit a few years back with how TV edits curse words with a voice that is completely unmatched with the voice in the movie. The most famous being "Yippie kay-yay (Insert Bad Edit) MR FALCON!!"
And yes, I know I could just pop the DVD in and watch it the way it should be...but I am too lazy today to do that.
Some movies just should not be on TV and this is one of them. I laughed at how "jerk head" substituted for "jerk off" and the like. But the part that made me laugh about the whole TV edit thing is you can still watch two people get their brains blown out. But heaven forbid someone hear the word "fuck" or "jerk off..." Or we see a tit. Laughable at what people find offensive and what they dont find offensive. Personally, just show the movie as is. Why edit??

next time "Orgazmo" is on FUSE be sure to watch it. I dont think there has ever been a more censored movie on tv (and i've seen "Showgirls" on vh1). It was so ridiculous that the whole movie was absolutely incoherent with blurred shit on every shot. They didn't only censor it, they over-censored it too with stuff that wouldve been ok to show (like a sex toy in the shape of a fist). I couldnt believe it
"Scum bum."
Just awful.

Speaking of that blurred stuff...I was flipping through the channels and that silly movie "Idiocracy" was on Comedy Central, and they had the signs blurred out. In this digital age where they could probably just change the name of the sign, they get lazy and blur it out. But even better...the middle finger gets blurred out. WHY?!?!?! It is just a finger!!!

the middle finger blur is stupid, especially since i dont think people really give the middle finger anymore. Have you seen it recently? I think it today people would just say "fuck you" rather than that stupid gesture that makes no sense. i think the middle finger is tamer than saying "go to hell" or "i dont give a damn"

my cousin vinny is on tbs a lot & the editing is really bad.
Watching "Goodfellas" edited is hilarious. Hearing Pesci scream at someone with a 2nd grader's putdowns is priceless.

At work, I use "Forget You!" all the time as a substitute for cursing.
It calms me down cuz I'm laughing to myself, and prevents alot of civilian complaints.
Thank you tnt.

My fave TV edit of all time was when Crocodile Dundee was on ABC back in the 80's. There is a scene in the movie where Paul Hogan and Linda Kowalzki are talking about certain foods and says the line "You can live on it, but it taste like shit."
In the TV edit, it comes out as "...you can live on it but it tastes like (Really horrendous bad voice edit that is nowhere close to their voices) DOEBIE!!!" Just something that stood out in my head for a long time because of how terrible the edit was. Plus the edit screams the word...always made me laugh.

THE BLUES BROTHERS on channel 11 here in NYC is always a treat. They use "bamboozle" instead of "bullshit". And it's priceless.
JAKE: You lied to me?!!
ELWOOD: Nah, I took the liberty of bamboozling you.
JAKE: It was LIES!
ELWOOD: no no,it wasn't lies. It was bamboozle.
Love it.

i can't remember the name of the movie, but i think it was a spike lee joint. but it's the one where a large african-american gentleman is choked out by a police officer with a billyclub outside of a convenience store. but anyway, earlier on in the movie he has a HUGE boombox that he would carry around and chill on the stoops with. well, he went into the store and wanted "12 MUTHA FUCKIN D BATTERIES MUTHA FUCKA!". in the tv edit, he screams, "12 MIKI-FIKI BATTERIES, MIKI-FIKI!" at the asian gentleman working in the store.
i always found that humorous.

Ohhh...my...God...
Just when I thought edits couldnt get any worse, this one comes along. Then again, this is one movie I would NEVER watch on network TV. You know you are going to lose all the great lines and scenes.
Its kind of like the very first time I saw Fast Times at Ridgemont High was on TBS. I was like "what is the big whoop about this movie??" Then I saw the way it was supposed to be...I will never again see a movie I never saw before on network or basic cable.

Die Hard With a Vengeance featured the substitution of "mother fucker" with "melon farmer", so, there were about 128 "melon farmer"s uttered in the movie.

At least this guy shouldn't have to worry about being edited.

I loved that movie!!
Also, they will even change Family Guy lines, depending on what channel it's on. One of my favorites is where they change Quagmire saying "Let's play hide and go anal," to "let's play school girl and guy that has sex with school girl."

It's got to be the only show where you can only see it unedited when it's in rerun on a different channel.
I really enjoy watching the TV edit of "Major League." The softening of the swear words makes the movie a real treat.

One of my favorite bad edits from all the way back when WPIX used to show The Breakfast Club and Bender's line "Eat My Shorts" was changed to "Eat my socks." That movie had some other bad edits too.
And I recall Mallrats having some great awful edits too.

When Kill Bill Vol. 2 is on TNT, they change Bill saying "sometimes you can be a real cunt" to "sometimes you can be a real sorehead."
I remember when "Young Guns" aired on network TV on 2 occasions they changed "Kiss My Ass" to "Kiss My Hand" and "Kiss My Eye"

When Back to the Future is on TBS they pixel out the Miller High Life beer can that Doc throws into Fusion thing for the DeLorian. I'm not sure if they pixel it out cause it's a beer or if they don't have a commercial deal with Miller.
Another one that is great is The Great Outdoors. Instead of saying blow it out your ass the mom say's blow it out your kazoo.
