How did I not know about this sooner?
The show was created and written by Mitch Hurwitz of Arrested Development fame. Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Henry Winkler are some of the characters in it.

Looks promising. Anything the Arrested Development crew does I'll basically go all in with.
Starts THIS SUNDAY (whooooo!)

It's part of Animation Sunday on FOX. I believe it is taking the 8:30pm EST timeslot.
It looks pretty promising. Fingers crossed.
***Edit - premier is Sunday, April 19 (this Sunday). And the time is 8:30pm (just confirmed online).

i dunno what happened..but even with the talent involved i thought it was a pretty big bomb.
the characters are just too cartoony and unrealistic and the humor seemed so forced. Didn't crack a smile or feel like i saw anything new or original

Dude, it wasn't that bad. I have seen way worse cartoons than that.
It's totally unfair to judge it based on a pilot episode. All pilots stink. They all have the blatant character setups because they have to. I'm gonna stick with it. It had some good gags, and the characters will become more funny as the show continues, and they don't have to be so broad.

i agree, most pilots do stink and most first seasons of animated series stink. Animated shows take longer to figure out the characters and stuff for some reason
however, i think whenever someone who usually does real-life stuff decides "i'm going to do an animated series" it almost always sucks. If you look at all the really successful animated shows they were started by people who, from the very begining, wanted to work in the medium of cartoons. Greoning, Mike Judge, Seth MacFarlane all had previous cartoon experience and really understood the artform. But when a regular tv producer puts his hand in there it goes too cartoon-y and it just doesn't work
has there ever been a successful animated series started by people whose only experience was live-action tv? I really can't think of any

I've been thinking about this on and off, and finally think I came up with an answer.
Clerks the Cartoon. I know his experience wasn't live action TV, but he had only done live action stuff previously. I dig it, I own it on DVD, and thought it was fantastically done. It may have only gone episodes, but they were all gold.
I'm still with this show, too. They did an eighties episode the other night that was killing me. The writing is hilarious, and the self awareness adds for some really funny material

sorry, you can't say a show that only got about 6 episodes was a successful show. it didn't even get a full season
with successful animated series (especially on network tv) there is only a handful of them to begin with. Most of them were created by Matt Groening, Mike Judge or Seth MacFarlane who were all legitimate cartoonists/animators with their own style. But when someone like David Spade says "I'm going to make an animated series based on me and my dad" its a trainwreck because non-animators don't understand animation

That's not really the same thing, cause Clerks was done really well. It wasn't quality of the series that sunk it. The main problem with the series was time and location. ABC on a weekday? What fan of Kevin Smith, or cartoons, is gonna tune into ABC on a weekday for enjoyable programming. If it had been given a better time slot, and maybe had started on Adult Swim, the audience would have stuck with it, and it could have gotten an actual fan base.

watching the Clerks series on dvd i laughed and enjoyed it but i still think it wasn't good. When it was on (and i think only 2 or 3 episodes aired on ABC) I felt it should've just been the movie in cartoon form, instead of the whole "Simpsons"/"Family guy" ripoff (i dont know if FG was on yet) of being really cartoony and self-references and movie/celebrity parodies. Upon repeat viewings i learned to appreciate it for what it was but I don't feel it was successful in any aspect.
even so, my point with "sit down and shut up" was meant to be more "has there been a successful animated show, to a mainstream audience, that was created by a non-animator/cartoonist". Something that made money for the network. I don't think there was. Something that atleast lasted 3 seasons.

That Ill actually give a chance considering I love Family Guy and American Dad.
Besides, I think there will be alot of race humor in The Cleveland Show, which I love. Kind of like Boondocks but lighter.
