Hey there-
Here's the deal- This USB jack from the back of my keyboard has broken connector prongs:

And now i can't fit a cord in there... it doesn't get recognized. I opened up the case and it seems that the USB is attached to the logic board:

I was hoping I could take an old USB cord and somehow make it work so that i cut off the big square 2.0 end, connect the wires & just have it come directly out of the back - but I have no idea how it's going to work. Does anyone have any ideas at all? Please let me know :) THANKS!

That's gonna be rough. I think you'd actually need to take apart the end of a USB cord and solder each wire to the proper pin, knowing where each one was supposed to go.
Your best bet, in my humble opinion, is searching for parts with your keyboard part or model number online and see what comes up. Or you could look at the little circuit board and see if you see a part number then search for that.
But you're probably just gonna end up buying another keyboard, you know they don't make these things so you an fix them.

The soldering I think I can do.... the question is: which wire to which pin....

And therein lines the big problem. We're not talking about easy soldering either, we're talking about very small wires in a very small space. No matter how long you make the wires you're still forced to solder them in a very small, confined area on that board. I think there may be speical micro solder I heard you need to use to replace iPod batteries and such.
You need some sort of wiring diargam, and I'd have no idea where to find that and no faith that you're gonna find it online. Like I said, no one repairs shit anymore so you're probably not going to find much online, but start doing Google searches with your keyboard model with words like Wiring Diagram, Parts List, Repair, USB Connector and somesuch.

How the hell are you posting this without a keyboard? I know a lot of machines won't boot up without one connected.
In your pics there's other connectors on the back of that thing, can you use another method to connect?
And can you please post the model and brand so I know what we're even dealing with?

You'd either have to replace that board or find the same USB port at an electronics supplier and solder in the new one. I do not see any other options.

how do you remember what keys to press to get each letter? are they labeled?

Flip the thing over and give us the official model number or part number off the bottom of the keyboard.
It's a $130 keyboard, I understand why you aren't interested in buying a new one.
If I were you I'd think of looking for an authorized dealer for repair at this point bro.

I see "Midi Out" on the back of it in that top pic. Do you have the nessecary components to connect it to your comp with that?

OKAY! I have successfully removed the solder from the circuit board and removed the USB receptor - and because I literally cannot find a USB B receptor anywhere (I don't know of any physical stores that carry circuit board componentry in Seattle - not even Fry's & I'm afraid I'll order the wrong thing online)
So I found a USB A & B wiring diagram and the plan now is to attach the USB wires directly to the circuit board. BUT here's the question. I wanted to extend the USB wire without having to buy a new one- and I have a whole bunch of CAT5 around, SO does anyone know if it's smart to splice CAT5 to the USB wiring and extend it that way? Any reason that the CAT5 would interfere with the native USB wiring?
Have I sufficiently confused everybody??

Using Cat 5 wires should not be an issue. I think it's the same gauge, etc.
