Edge of Darkness looks pretty generic but I'm still there. Mel has a good track record of playing hard-boiled men on the edge, which is probably why the word edge wound up in the title. I can't believe it's been almost a decade since his last lead performance; I guess working with M.Night on Signs left him with a bad taste in his mouth on the acting craft. What I'm really excited for is the epic about bloodthirsty Vikings that he has in the pipeline with Leo attached to star. Passion I thought didn't hold up to repeat scrutiny but Apocalypto for me is one of the absolute best of the 00s.

2002 gave us Signs and We Were Soldiers....He has been living on the edge for a good part of his life fighting personal demons and alcohol.
He looks haggard and worn which fits his character in this role.
The film is a typical revenge plot with a couple of interesting agendas.
It's good to see him back on the screen.

I was watching Edge of Darkness and I was admiring what a mature and intelliigent work it was. Thr story works on a number of levels and Mel's work in it might be some of his best. How sad his life must have been for him to be so tortured and conflicted. Why can't he be more like Tom Hanks and be at peace with his rather fucking great life.
