What was your favorite short-lived tv show from the 1980's? A show that ran a few episodes and cancelled or ran a up to 3 tv seasons or 2 regular years.

My favorite was
Voyagers!
http://www.ultimatedisney.com/images/t-v/voyagers-cov.jpg
Time travel Fantasy show Starring Meeno Peluce and Jon-Erik Hexum. I liked to pocket size time machine.

The Greatest American Hero
http://gattaca.com.ar/weblog/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/greatestamericanhero.jpg
High school teacher is turned in a bumbling super-hero. I would love to see the movie version.

Automan
http://www.geocities.com/TelevisionCity/9348/automan2.jpg

Police officer and computer programmer who had created an artificially intelligent crime fighting program that generated a hologram able to leave the computer world and enter reality to help fight crime. He had a cool car better the knight rider. http://www.retrojunk.com/img/art-images/sti10.jpg

The New Odd Couple
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/d/de/13536newcouple2.jpg/250px-13536newcouple2.jpg

An updated version of the 1970-75 television series The Odd Couple. The New Odd Couple was the second attempt to remake a series of one of Neil Simon's plays with a primarily African-American cast. I like the hip version of the theme song.

My sister Sam

This show did great on Monday nights, but went moved it the Saturday night the ratings when down and then later cancelled. My Sister Sam was not cancelled due to Schaeffer's murder, as this happened a year after the show's end.

What was that show with the robot girl that everyone though was just acting like a robot? That show was weird.

Wait what was that show with that girl that could freeze time? I only remember the episode where she freezes time kissing a boy for the first time so she remembers to tilt her head the right way and to close her eyes.

Maybe that one was early 90s I'm not sure.

I think you're thinking of Zack Morris and Saved by the Bell. He had godlike powers to stop time and he was pretty like a girl.

nowadays, it probably would've been cancelled after 2 episodes, and Sledge wouldn't even have had the chance to set off a nuclear bomb, like in the season finale (can't find the video on youtube).

I can't remember anything about the show other than that ending, someone screaming as the bomb went off and then the crushing truth that some TV shows just don't come back.

As a child I couldn't believe they would leave me hanging on the story. I'm still a little pissed about it to this day.

I remember that show and it did have a second season
Because ABC intended to cancel the series, the last episode of the first season ends with Hammer accidentally destroying the city when he attempts to disarm a stolen nuclear warhead; just before the explosion Hammer remarks on his infamous phrase "Trust Me....." . The last scene shows the "Beneath the Planet of the Apes"-style ruins of the city with Trunk's voice screaming "HAMMMMMMMER!", and a graphic flashed:

"To Be Continued... Next Season?"

However, this episode got much better than expected ratings, in large part because the network had moved the show to a better time slot. ABC changed its mind and renewed the show for a second season.
Cosby killed it though, damn him and his sweaters.

Sidekicks (although I thought it was titled Little Dragon)?

There was a made for TV movie that was the pilot for the series called "The Last Electric Knight" That show irritated me. All I wanted to watch, at that time, was non-stop martial arts action. Instead, I got the occasional kicks and other stunts.

If we can include "Parker Lewis," I am also going to stretch the 1980s to 1990 and say, "Get a Life!" Chris Elliot is a 30 year old paperboy. Many famous comic writers like Bob Odenkirk and the great Charlie Kaufman wrote for the show.

Loved it.

Anyone remember the show with Chainsaw from Summer School, They came From Outer Space.

There are two that I can't remember the titles of. One was some syndicated show with a family and some old lady puppett. The other one I have tried to look up online but with no avail was a children's show. In New York it was on NBC before all the real cartoons came on. It had these squirels in a tree house and some bad guy who I think was called Buzz Buzzsaw.

What a great thread... although some of you can't read.... "short-lived" please. Miami Vice, Riptide, and Spencer For Hire don't apply.

My favorite was Voyagers!

Loved it and recently bought the DVDs. It holds up!

Manimal was cool when I was a kid

Trivia question: Do you know the 90's TV show that Manimal returned, wrapping up the character's story?

I remember watching this episode being blown away that I was watching Manimal again.

So you don't have to look it up:

It was a series called Night Man which ran from 1997 to 1999. Manimal dies saving Night Man.

My Secret Identity?

Out of this world!

Wow... I totally forgot about those shows, but watched them all. Seeing the youtube opening credits takes me back like it was yesterday.

Here are two I remember liking:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gs1pfDpMrGE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Gs1pfDpMrGE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

What an awful concept, intro and song. How did they expect it to last more than one season? No matter, I had a crush on Ann Jillian!

And this one is cheating a bit - it aired only in 1990 for 6 episodes. I thought it was the funniest show I had ever seen at the time. Anyone else remember The Marshall Chronicles?

I was a huge fan of The Master w/ Lee Van Cleef and Timothy Van Patten.

There was a show w/ Jason Bateman and the guy who played Steve Rhodes on Married With Children that I enjoyed.

The one dude was dating Bateman's mom and they were always pulling scams on each other to try and get the upper hand.

I'm sure I could find it on IMDB or TV.com but I'm too lazy.

I gotta be honest and say I forgot how it ended.

I think it only lasted like 2 seasons. I may actually have them on taoe somewhere at my parents.

I know they did jam 2 episodes together and showed them as a movie on Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Demi Moore was in it.

I also like a gang show called Renegades.

It was a take on the old tough gang kids working w/ the police to fight crimes bit.

Patrick Swaze was in it.

I also rememeber liking Tales Of The Golden Monkey w/ Ernest Borgnine and I think the father from 7th Heaven.

The Powers Of Matthew Star and Misfits Of Science were entertaining.

I must've been mashing it up w/ Airwolf, another great show which I believe I also have on tape.

The original Airwolf on CBS. Not the one that somehow ended up on USA.

There was a Blue Thunder show for a while w/ awful casting including Dick Butkus and Bubba Smith ( or maybe just Butkus ).

Spencer For Hire might not count but Hawk should.

I don't think BJ & The Bear had a long run huh ?

Sheriff Lobo had a spinoff that was OK.

You Can't do that on Television was not short lived. It was on for a while. And think about the ramifications of that show. Nickelodeon continues to use green slime in game shows and stuff. Granted a kid now a day's would have no clue who Barf and Moose are, but they would know all about green slime.

1988 series, lasted about a season and a half - had a great cast (including Julie Louis Dreyfus, Courtney Thorne-Smith, and Thora Birch as the baby) - I think they tried to tie it into Family Dies at one point.

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/photos/daybyday-1988.jpg

Actually, not really a good show, but I was a fan of one particular episode where they had members of The Brady Bunch show up to parody themselves - some very, very funny jokes - I think all of the Brady boys were there, as well as a real life pregnant Marcia, and even Alice, Mom and Dad (no Cindy or Jan).

In the episode, the son on the show falls asleep watching a Bunch marathon on tv and dreams he is part of the Brady Family. This kid was played by Christopher Daniel Barnes, who would later play Greg in the movies 7 years later.

The episode came out right after the Brady Christmas special and the overly serious Brady's dramatic series, but it really is what is responsible for showing people how to make fun of this show - from the movies, to SNL, to the stage show owe something to this episode.

The Powers of Matthew Star- I think he was an alien and the Feds were after him.

I don't remember the title of this show (I think it was based on a movie) but it was about a rich bachelor dude that takes in orphan girls (of different nationalities) relunctantly due to part of a will or something and ends up loving them like the family/children he never had.

Powers Of Matthew Star was good. I always remembered it because it had 2 people that were in Friday The 13th films ( Amy Steele and I forget the name of the guy who actually played Matthew Star ).

Double Trouble was always mislabeled. I remembered reading an ad for it and they reffered to 1 sister as being " devilsih ". One might've been straight laced but the other wasn't all that crazy from what I can remember.

Not sure if I mentioned this earlier in the thread and I can't recall the name of the show but it had Justin Bateman and Steve Rhodes from Married With Children. Bateman was always running scams and the Steve Rhodes character was dating his mom.

Ripley's Believe It Or Not. Specifically, the first season before Jack Palance forced the producers and ABC to hire his daughter as a co-host (and certainly not the bastardized Dean Cain version).

As a kid, I loved the way Jack said "Believe it . . . or not" and constantly did an impression of it. He was so creepy and funny at the same time. He was like everyone's favorite coked up, kid touching uncle.
