I know it sounds silly, but seriously google makes me a little nervous.
First, their prime business is of course advertising, that's where their money is made. Then the release an email client...latitude...chat clients...etc.... which many people happily store their info...phone numbers..addresses..previous addresses...etc.
and now a web browser as well, so not only do they know who you are, where you live, who your friends are, possibly where they live, what sites you visit, etc.....
I can't help but feel as if its all simply to gather info to better target their ads..etc.
are there any of you who blindly use googles services and am i just crazy to not want to fill in this info or use chrome?

I love Chrome. It's ridiculously fast, but I stopped using it because it was loading ronfez.net "New Posts" weird. It wouldn't start on the newest post, it would start just past it.
Also, google is taking over the world. They're like Microsoft, only seem less evil because they give stuff away for free.

Nah, I don't think of myself as being important enough to think that anyone anywhere would have the slightest interest in anything I do.

yeah, I think google is so efficient as the ultimate data collection tool. Best search engine ever, always evolving, great browser which I use (though Fox is still my primary). Great series of tools with earth and blogging. Whole scheme is probably a government front.

Gmail is fantastic. I've been using it since it started and have never had a single complaint.
Chrome is still too buggy to be my go-to browser, but it's a lot faster on my computer than Firefox. As long as Google stays on the good side of the Force, I'm down.

My gmail is a spam collector.
Are you saying you get a lot of spam in your inbox? Because, though I get from 3 to 10 spams a day in my spam folder, I think I've had no more than one spam get to my inbox in years.

I utilize several of Google's services and find no problems with doing so. They provide good quality web products in what's close to a single package.
Google Earth syncs with my Garmin mapping software.
Email simple and easy to use, spam filters do a good job.
Home page is nice mashup of information outlets
And I could go on.

I'm the least paranoid man in America.
I honestly do not give a shit if "they" know what sites I visit, or when I log on or off, or if they know my personal info, or read my IM's, or anything else.
I don't care if "they" know where I go by tracking my EZ Pass.
I don't care if "they" know what I watch because of my Tivo.
I seriously just do not give a shit.
I just live my life and I move forward.

There are plenty of sites out there a lot scarier than Google.
I have proven many a time to people I know that I can pretty much
get any information I desire about them and I never even have to use Google.

All kidding aside, it IS a little wierd that I'll write an email to a friend about a certain topic and the next time I go to my gmail acocunt, there's an advertisement about that topic. And I don't mean general topics. Very specific stuff.

I always just make sure I uncheck boxes that say "send me offers and news". If they still send me mail, I report it as spam.
