View Full Version : Actors Who Also Sing

We had a thread about best/worst musicians who became actors, but what about actors who think they can sing?
I bring this up because I just read this story:
Thornton To DJ: 'Don't Call Me An Actor'
8 April 2009 3:00 PM, PDT
Singer/actor Billy Bob Thornton left a U.S. radio host baffled on Wednesday morning when he demanded the DJ treat him "like Tom Petty" - and not refer to his Hollywood career.
Angelina Jolie's ex-husband made the bizarre request on America's Cbc Radio, during an appearance with his country/pop band The Boxmasters.
The Oscar winner lost his temper with presenter Jian Ghomeshi when questioned about his passion for singing and how he finds time for music in between his acting jobs.
Thornton snapped, "Would you say that to Tom Petty?" and went on to blast his host for broaching subject matter the star had allegedly warned show producers was off-limits.
A confused Ghomeshi asked, "Are you reacting to the fact that I referred to you as an actor?" to which Thornton replied, "Yeah, I am, since you were instructed not to talk about s**t like that."
He added, "We said, 'Do not talk about s**t like that,' and we also said not to discuss if music is my first love. You wouldn't say that to Tom Petty, would you?"
Thornton's outburst prompted Ghomeshi to apologise to the star and "call a truce" before moving on to focus discussion on the group's album.
Billy! You've done some good films. Sling Blade, A Simple Plan, Bad Santa, and I thought you were the best part of that snoozer The Alamo.
But you were also in Armageddon, Bandits, and this year something called Manure (but I'll hold judgment on that).
Anyway, that makes you an actor.
And to pull some phony "You're not supposed to talk about that" shit makes me think less of you... not only as an actor, but as a person. Would you rather be known as Billy The Entertainer? Would that work? Bleeech.
Like Tom Petty would ever say "Hey! We're only gonna talk about The Postman, alright?"

Fuck you, Billy boy! Culture defines you, and you define culture. as part of American culture, people dont say, "Oh yea, Billy Bob Thorton - have you heard his latest hit single?" NO!!!
Guy one, "remember that guy that plays a killer retard, he has a new movie coming out with a new movie."
Guy two, "is he playing a retard?"
Guy one, "i assume he always played a retard."
Guy two, "i assume he always played a hick."
Guy one, "who gives a shit, lets jerk off together instead!"
Guy two, "ok, drjoek, i'll get the lube!"
we all see you as an actor, not a singer.

We have Shatner's The Transformed Man and Has Been. I absolutely love both of those CDs.
Michael McKean rules, I saw him in the Pajama Game (Harry Shearer and Christopher Guest rule also, love all of their work). Eugene Levy has a surprisingly good voice.

"Has Been" is amazing. One of my favorite albums of all time.
Check out Carradine's "I Love You Now." (http://www.myspace.com/officialdavidcarradine) It's off an album he cut a few years ago. He plays guitar, sings, and wrote the majority of the songs.
Amazing that both these guys are over 70 and still so creative.

I was really impressed with Anne Hathaway (that's her name) when she sang on SNL, and they even got her to jump on board a song during the Oscars. I think she's smoking hot as it is, but she's got some legitimate pipes.
Jack Black does, too, actually.

That Billy Bob Thornton Interview
By Dave Itzkoff
Breaking the entertainment industry’s streak of 56 days without an embarrassingly awkward celebrity interview, Billy Bob Thornton did his best to make Joaquin Phoenix seem approachable and loquacious during a prickly interview promoting his band, the Boxmasters, on Canada’s public CBC Radio. (Among the awkward questions and responses: “How long ago did your band form?” “I don’t know what you’re talking about.”) If you can’t wait for the next season of “Curb Your Enthusiasm” to start, this video clip should briefly satisfy your hunger for achingly, all-too-real situation comedy:

i don't think Billybob was drunk or on drugs or anything, i think that when the interview began and the host introduced them by bringing up his acting career, I think he was just furious and fuming from that point on
but he is a baby
I read a twitter from Steve C. saying "no wonder why we weren't asked to book him", can you imagine if he came into O&A because a producer promised they wouldn't bring up his film stuff?
