quick question.
anyone have a good program that they can shoot over to me that can unpartition a sata II drive (xp sp3).
friend of mine just bought a computer, and the 160gb drive is partitioned into c: (os) and d: (data), with the data drive empty. i dont get it.
if i burn the recovery disks, then wipe/reinstall xp, will it give me the option to partition the drive how i want ?

Is it a HP or Dell? They normally put a Data drive (D:) on their for the built in backup utility software, or for a place to put your pics and stuff seperate from the master partition.
Anyway, you can always use try:
Use Windows XP's Disk Management function by Right-clicking My Computer, click Manage.... Then select Disk Management on the list to the left. You can delete the extra partition there.
or
Easeus Partition Manager (http://download.cnet.com/Easeus-Partition-Manager/3000-2248_4-10863346.html)
or
Symantec Partition Magic (http://www.symantec.com/norton/partitionmagic)

I have one partiton. I like it that way. No, her comp is an emachines, and the part is right down the middle. I wanted to kill that 2nd partition. She's not that computer smart, and I thought this would make it easier for her. No, D does not have a recovery setup in it

Correction: I have a partition on mine. My D is just big enough for the recovery files, and that's all. Everything else is on C

Bingo.
In most cases a second partition is nice for recovery using windows backup utility. When I set up peoples computers I do this often, then make the backup incremental, scheduled, and a hidden file.
