Before I start following instructions on forums I find around the net for converting DVD's and online videos into formats I can load on my new 120 gig iPod Classic, I though I'd come in here quick.
Does anyone here have a recommendation of programs they have used to convert videos? Maybe a program you went to after using a less user friendly one?
Just looking to take an experience anyone else has had doing this into account before I start getting the different free softwares I need from around the net.
I'm really just looking to convert small mpeg and avi files (no not porn) from like Youtube and a few personal vids of the band. Later I'll look into ripping DVD's onto it I guess, but I want to start small.

I haven't really done the whole ipod video thing very often, but when I did I used the Jodix free converter and it seemed to work relatively well.

I use DVD Fab Platinum to rip/convert DVD's to iPod format. It's not free ($20 I think), but I think you can get a 30 day free trial. It's really easy to use.

Thanks Mikeyboy, I decided to try this one out 1st. Ads suck but I guess that's why it's free. I'm gonna try a quick Youtube vid for a dry run.

I seem to be epic failing at converting Youtube vids. I select the stream I want but when I go look at the progress it shows and error. I left it alone to see if it just said that for some reason as it was converting but no dice.
Any tips on that? Using the program Mikeyboy suggested just to be clear.

Eh no big deal, I found a seperate free program that just converts You Tube vids. I can use the one Mikeboy suggested for already saved files and this other one for the few You Tube vids I want on my iPod.
Once I get a few DVD's togethter I'll be converting the hell out of those too.

I've been wanting to do this forever but never had the patience. The only vids I have I bought and I don't want to do that again. I have WAY too many DVD's I can convert on my own, I just never researched what was involved. I might have to try that free program.

Check out Handbreak for all your DVR ripping and converting needs. The program works fast and you can choose from the custom presets or choose your own bitrate, frame rate ect , and the program is absolutely free.

OK, this is pretty easy. Put a few Aqua Teen Hunger Force vids I had on the iPod as well as a few O&A Animations from You Tube. Pretty easy.
DVD's will be my next obstacle to overcome. I don't own many DVDs so it's not a major issue for me. I think I may just wait for the Director's Cut of The Watchmen to come out and learn by converting that.

This is great. Watching the Wesley Snipes animation from O&A and the Slap Chop "Love My Nuts" dance remix on my iPod is so great.
