We blew out three times as many Flash comics in twenty four hours then we usually sell over a twelve week period. Tried to order more and DC sold out before the release date. Second printings are coming out,but this caught everyone by surprise, better sales the the Green Lantern Rebirth.
I wont be able to read this until we get in our second printings in. What did the people who got the first print think of this book?

i thought it was pretty good. i don't really know anything about barry allen except from a few references in some wally west stories. the artwork is some of the best i have seen in awhile. im looking forward the next few issues.

It's pretty good for a first issue. It looks like that this series will be exploring the Speed Force, and may change the understanding of it and how it works.

Plus, it looks like a new evil speedster has been born.

I like to wait for the HC trades to come out (beacuse they look so pretty on my shelf), but I may have to buy the singles for this one. Can't go wrong with Geoff Johns.

I still feel that Barry's resurrection is completely unnecessary, but this was a good first issue. I like that Johns has given Barry a hook beyond "He's the old Flash."

I finally got hold of a second printing of this book, all of which sold out in the first four days again, and got to read it. Growing up Barry Allen and the Flash were my favorites. I think I was attracted to him because of his connection to Earth 2 and the golden age heroes of DC. I thought this reincarnation had just the right amount of nostalgia for who Barry was and the right amount of respect for where the legend of the speedsters has gone. It was an added bonus for the JSA members to give Barry credit for their comeback, that part really hit the mark for me. It looks like a story I'll stay with for a while too. I really like when hey take all the generations of the icon into consideration when the launch something like this.

The second issue of Flash Rebirth came out. No indication yet as to who the villain reinacting Barry's powers origin is, but the last page gave a huge suprise:

Barry may be the new Black Flash.

i hope this is light with the geoffconning. Not bad after two issues tho.

If anyone is going to do a retconning, I'd pick Geoff Johns to do it virtually every time. He's done great work with Hawkman, Green Lantern and Superman.

and jsa, and legion and ever and ever and ever and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting and knitting.'

great writer, but he just plays with continuity as he sees fit. yes, i know. I KNOW.

it never bothered me till he started doing legion of 3 worlds

thankfully he is a strong enough writer that the story/outcomes are good enough to warrent the playing around.

I read issue two today before I left the store. I'm still on board, but I am never fond of leaving too much open ended. Tell us we're we are when this is over and I will be happy with it.
That twist on the end tho leaves me wondering.

Let's face it, Legion needs it. I'm a Legion fan, but it's been rebooted enough times already. (My fave still being post Zero Hour)

hehe we might need another thread for this one.

im kinda torn on another legion reboot, and i guess a geoffconning could be the best thing for it, but oh man johns needs to learn his legion. just because he stopped reading after crisis and then apparently started again whenever gates shows up doesnt mean he should forget the years in between. yes, the bierbaums fucked everything up. be a writer and find a way to fix it, dont send mephisto in to make us forget.

i love all the versions of legion, i have a feeling we might have a legion made of the three teams when this ends, or, maybe just all three to play with.

one thing i never got was why they needed to reboot stories that take place in the future. its the future, and since comic book time always stays in the now, you have a non moving period of time to just say, well something changes in between to make things back to status quo. you dont need to change anything in a future book to validate the past mistakes. fleh.

To be fair, I haven't read Legion of 3 Worlds yet (I'm a trade guy), but Legion locked itself into a spot where Keith Giffen had jumped ahead 5 years in their timeline and new readers couldn't jump on and old readers had trouble keeping up, so they rebooted with Zero Hour.

Second reboot wasn't really necessary.

i've barely read any legion stuff, but i am loving legion of 3 worlds.

what are some good recommendations for legion if i was to jump in?

agreed. and the whole archie legion was pretty unnecessary too. the giffen stuff - def the kind of thing i had to reread, hes a genius, and that stuff was a struggle and kind of uneven. really interesting tho.

ok, everyone has their favorite version of the legion, and for some reason trades are scattered between the versions. id say any of them are worth checking out. eye for an eye, which is the begining of the baxter era is really good, im a big fan of the 70's 80's levitz/giffen era, those books are top notch.

the great darkness saga is awesome.

theres a collection that came out last year called 1020 years in the future or something like that which is worth checking out as a colection of notable stories.

and the most recent waid/kitson era has a bunch of books out - i enjoyed these too, waid had alot of great ideas tweaking staples of legion history, but from what i hear alot of people dont like it. but i did lol.

oh and theres a book called legion foundations which is a great story from the abnett/lanning era (which is also really awesome).

not sure if she lost the power or stopped using it, I remember an issue of JSA she used the superspeed in her Liberty Belle garb

by the way, her dad's name was Johnny Quick who discovered the speed formula (3X2(9YZ)4A), which doesn't really work

Jesse lost her speed, became Liberty Belle, then got it back. So Liberty Belle has both sets of powers now.

Don't forget Wallace West, an alternative Hypertime Flash who replaced Wally for a short time:

Well, I was pointing out Wallace as someone else who was a Flash as opposed to other speedsters, but you're right.

Yes, but your post reminded me of all the "evil" speedsters, since no one else posted any.

And I didn't count the "Black Flash" because he's a representation of the speed force rather than an actual speedster.

Vague Rebirth spoiler re: this point.

Thus far, Johns' portrayal of Black Flash in Rebirth may challenge this idea.
