Apparently this is Fogler's audition clip for a Kinison biopic that's in the works.
I keep going back and forth as to whether or not he's nailing it. Part of it is that I can't stand the actor, so that's not helping.
Is this a good idea or not?

hes not doing a bad job...much better than jim carrey's terrible Andy Kaufman (thats right...jim did not capture the comedian that kaufman was). But Dan Fogler was the lead in that awful "Balls of fire" movie and as a result i hate looking at his face.

Seemed pretty good to me.
The only movies I've seen that he's been in are cartoons, so I have no reason to hate him yet. If you saw Balls of Fury or Good Luck Chuck, you got what you deserve.

Well, the resemblance is certainly there as well as the intonation, but there is something about it that seems VERY forced. I wasn't caught up in it.

After watching the real version of that set, I didn't think it was too bad.

Maybe he needs to be a little more drunk/stoned to really nail it though.

I think he did a good enough job with the stand up. But what really matters will be if he can be convincing in the non stand up parts. And, of course, if the story line is well written.
In the spirit of the title "Good Luck, Chuck:"
Better luck next time.
I have heard better Kinisons from better actors.
He sounded more like a contemporary comic apeing his gimmick.

are you married or are you dating yourself?

Right. It never seemed more than an actor playing a part.
Kinison led an interesting life and with a good script it may make an interesting movie. But they should stay away from trying to reproduce his stand-up, it will never be good. Maybe they should just show actual clips of Kinison doing his stand-up like they did in American Splendor where they inserted the actual clips of Harvey Pekar with David Letterman.

I dont think you can judge Folger doing his stand up and if the movie tries to recreate his stand up it will be awful. I think, as an actor, he could be decent. You also have to realize they aren't going to shoot it on video and all the other stuff that goes into a movie that makes this clip seem chintzy.
