View Full Version : How many "mysterious" blank media discs you got laying around your comp?

I just took an hour and finally finished the long, boring job I began last month on another boring night. I took all the unmarked CD-R's and DVD-R's that I have collected around my computer and dealt with them. Labeled some, discarded others, broke apart a select few so that no one could access what was on them.
Any other tech peeps have this happen? I'll burn a movie, back up some music, put some pictures on a disc to print at a photo kiosk and 2 years later I'm surrounded with blank media I can't identify.
Give it 6 months and I'll have another few hour's worth of discs to deal with, I'm sure of it.

I don't even know the count. One day I will begin to go through the ones from the olden days and see if anything is worth keeping. 4x CD-R, wonder when that was last fast in burn standards?

Lol, I should have guessed boosterp would be the only one to respond to this. The guy I've been geek talking Netbooks with for 2 days.
OK sorry, I guess this is kind of a hacker/tech geek problem and not many of you, even ones who are somewhat tech savvy, will have.

This is officially worse than my "Drummers get no respect" thread, and who would have thought that was possible?

At home I'm pretty good aboot that. I keep a sharpie at the ready. My outstanding smelling desk is pretty well organized.
At the office is another story. I get dozens of disks from clients. Most of them are shit. They burn a shortcut from their desktop to CD, and I'm supposed to get them ready for print?:wallbash:
Every couple of weeks, me and my co worker play dead disc frisbee. It cleans the office and lets off some steam.
Good thread, Moe.

None on my desk at all. But tons in my desk drawers. I try to look at what's on them sometimes but there are just too many!

The big problem is I had a lot of music that I must have lost the original disc too.....
that I hadn't put back on my iPod since I had to restore it, and hadn't put on my new HD since my last HD failure. So I kinda had to put the music back on my desktop to add to the iPod, but sorting through a pile of unmarked discs is annoying. Sure, if I kept track of it from the beginning I wouldn't be making this thread. Thanks Mom.

I threw out 7 that were just sitting on the passenger floor of my car the other day. They just pile up everywhere. You'd think by now I'd leave sharpies around.

i have all the r+f's and o+a from about 2002 plus a mix from earlier.
they take up over 700 cds
ive gone through about 4%
yet still when i make a new one i never label it
probably because i get to back and re listen to old shows occasionally

i have dozens of dozens of discs laying about ... after two crashed PCs (before i was a bit smarter about recovery), i've been holding on to some of these data-discs-of-tunes for 8+ years
there've been some songs that fell thought the cracks, and i just don't have anymore ... but, i'll probably just throw them out -- i couldn't tell you when the last time i even touched them
probably as much as i go to my mini-discs

I found about 7 copies of the Windows 7 beta I'd burned to discs, being too damn lazy to dig through the unlabeled ones at the time and just deciding to burn a new one if I needed the disc for any reason.

when i was packing back in october, i went through each and every disk i own searching for something i cant find.
if there was nothing i needed on it, i dumped the disk. otherwise, it was properly labeled and packed.

I keep one of these near my unused media and label it when I burn something to them.

Millions. Or dozens. Feels like a millions.
You should see how many discs I have in my car that I have absolutely no clue what's on them until I pop 'em in the CD player.
I have no idea why I never label them.

A lot of people have said "I have a sharpie and label them all" but that doesn't help when you get a disc from someone sometimes and/or bring one in from the outside. You end up loading it that night but putting it down, and it's lost within the night.

My problem primarily is that I don't want to write down which pornstars are on the DVDs just in case someone ever checks.
