I've never heard of such a thing. But on WOOT! yesterday I followed a link to this company:

SquareTrade (http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/)

It seems they are just a company that will give you a warranty on new and refurbished things you buy from Ebay, other online sites and stores.

I don't know why this amazed me but it makes a lot of sense. A warranty is really just a gamble on averages. Hopefully for them, you never use the warranty. And if you do, they are set up to quickly repair whatever is broken.

Does anyone have any experience with outside company's warranties? I've never bought a warranty that wasn't from the store I got the item from.

This is very similar to buying an extended warranty on your car after the manufacturer's expired.

High cost, not always upfront but in the deductibles
A gamble. Lappys and desktops are easy to repair
and, where is the product repaired? What happens if it can not be repaired?

The one warranty company in question warranties many different things from kitchen appliances to car audio to laptops. They state that certian things, probably like a refrigerator, will be service on site by one of their local guys while other things like laptops will get a prepair box to send to their warehouse.

Accidental damage coverage is extra of course. This particular company boasts a very good customer raiting on their website. I think it said if they can't fix it in 5 days they give you the full amount back? Something like that. If WOOT! uses them I feel a little more comfortable about going with them, but this was just a "what if" thread. I was hoping someone had used a similar comany.

Dude!
