Paxil has worked wonders for me - but NEVER JUST STOP TAKING IT! I missed 3 days and I am having badass withdrawls from it. At first I thought it was from being sick, but my doctor thinks it could be from the Paxil. I feel really dizzy like I'm going to pass out. Besides that, Paxil is great! I'm taking it for anxiety, and it's really worked wonders. Who else takes psychiatric drugs? Do they work for you?

I haven't yet, but I'm interested in any answers, because I may find myself on one of those medications soon, possibly in a few months. Missy, were you prescribed anything before paxil, or is that your first psychiatric drug?
I'm glad it helped you, but becoming dependent on it is a concern, side effects are another...

Missy, I've been meaning to start a thread like this for the past week! I first began taking Paxil about 2 months ago for depression and anxiety attacks I was suffering as a result of Sept. 11. My doctor told me it could take up to 8 weeks to start working, but that he favored it over the more immediate drugs because it was much less addictive. Many times I was ready to give it up because it just wasn't helping, but lately, I feel great. I have felt like my old self again recently for the first time in a long time, and I don't know if that's due to the medication, me sorting things out in my head, or a combination of the two.
Whatever the reason, I have been religious in my taking of Paxil, because I was warned of the potential side effects. I hope you get back in the swing, Missy, and I urge anybody reading this who feels down or depressed quite a bit to speak to their doctor about Paxil. It's not "altering" in any way, and there's nothing to fear.

I take Effexor and it's great! Virtually no side effects. I loved Paxil too but I had HORRIBLE night sweats! They were so bad I'd have to sleep on beach towels and my pajamas would be soaked through! Ugh! I had to sleep on the futon b/c I'd "wet the bed!" I took Prozac years ago. It worked great but made me very anxious when I tried it again. Zoloft didn't do much for me. Celexa caused me to have a panic attack. I also have some klonopin for when I actually have a panic attack but I hardly ever take it-- I'm too scared I'd have the klonopin monkey on my back!
Christ, I know WAY too much about psychotropic medications.

I'd stay away from meds, ya'll. I don't trust the stuff. You should stick with the tried and true...coke, e, and caffiene.

I actually didn't need any meds until after I took E for too long, that shit screws with your seratonin levels.

I've taken Celexa but never had the panic attacks that fuzzy is talking about. But I gained crazy weight. My therapists wouldn't allow me to take either celexa or therapy. I had to do both "for best results". I stop going to therapy. My therapists' boss (the head psychiatrists) had my refills cancelled.
When I was on the pill I was good but I was fearful that I wasn't myself. Part of what makes me is my feverish up-down mood curves. I never snap at people but my mood would just change at the drop of a hat. Because then I'd start thinking about how sad it is that all over the world people's hats are dropping (you get the idea.) ANyway, on the pill I was always calm and cool. I hated it for playing with my body chemicals. But I was addicted like crazy. Now I regret dumping the therapist. I really wish I had someone to always talk to. But it's too late. I'd break my mother's heart if I went into therapy again. And I feel that people will think I'm a fake. So many people now-a-days go to therapy as a "statement". They walk around like "yeah, watch out man...I'm crazy" as if it's cool. Oh well, I finished my rant. I don't even think I'm on the subject anymore. Sorry if this was too long. Take it easy Clarky.

Glad the paxil worked for you. I know paxil and wellbutrin are supposed to have less side effects and I *think* they are "less strong" than others like zoloft. That's a good thing, meaning you're not as screwy as me LOL :-)

Now that I think of it, when I went off Paxil and went on Zoloft, my doctor was really concerned about withdrawal and had me taper off slowly as I started the Zoloft. Withdrawal is one of the things you have to worry about when taking Paxil.

Welcome to the Medicine Nation.
What's with you people! Popping pills left and right. Have we become so dependent upon drugs that we can no longer face reality without them?
You all shame me. Why don't you do what I do - repress all of your anger and depression into a tight, painful little ball inside of yourself, and then occasionally unleash it with random acts of mindless violence. Works wonders for me!

I am almost positive the
dizziness you are feeling is
from the Paxil. I missed only
1 day when I was on it and i
got extremely lightheaded
and dizzy and fell down
while at work. My doctor
said missing a dose affects
people differently, but was
certain that's what
happened. Thats when I
started weening off it. But
I'm glad that you have found
this drug to work well for
you. Hopefully you won't
miss anymore days!

Both Ikea and myself aren't on any sort of medication. It's all become quite clear.
Our very own Mike O'Meara of the Don and Mike Show has just started taking Paxil.
Come, join us! I'm one of the proud 90,000 listening to Don and Mike.

I really feel sorry for you kids taking meds from so called professionals. Back in the day we did okay "self medicating" from guys with beepers..worked like a charm!:)
