I just saw Bolt and notice there was no father for Penny.
I can't remember any Disney movie that has a complete family (two parents and kids).
Do they just make movies where the family unit is fractured?

The Lion King.

He's alive at the beginning of the movie.

Then dead.

So technically, he is in the movie.

A lot of the 60's/70's family sitcoms had dead parents too.

As far as the anti-family criticism - Isn't the missing parent(s) usually treated as a bad thing that needs to be overcome, or is the reason for the conflict to begin with? If so, wouldn't that be pro-family?

its true..i saw animator Bill Plympton speak and he was offered $1million to animate the Genie in Alladin and he turned it down because if he took the job, any idea he had or anything else he worked on while working for Disney automatically became the property of Disney. They are bastards

This was always the knock against Disney films going back to Pinocchio, Bambi, Dumbo - films either with kids in peril or parents in peril (or dead!) - seriously, is there anything scarier in the history of cinema than the first time you ever saw the boys being turned into Donkeys in Pinocchio? It's right out of fucking Hitchcock - especially heartbreaking is the one little boy who didn't completely turn and could still talk - "Alexander."

I had this discussion with mikeyboy last February when we were talking about a book. The only non-Pixar, animated movie with two biological parents was Sleeping Beauty.

In Peter Pan, all the kids had both their parents, of course, Peter Pan had none. Mulan had both her parents. Technically, the dubbed Spirited Away was under Disney, and the girl had both her parents, though they turned into pigs and back to normal form. Oh, 101 Dalmations, both the dog parents and human parents were there. In Hercules, he has 2 sets of parents, his adoptive parents and Zeus/ Hera.

just wanted to help ya out!
