which do you prefer? ron lined the two up against each other, and i'd never really considered they sort of overlapped, era-wise.
personally, i'd go with the brit invasion. motown songs are nice pop songs, but they really sound old-fashioned and outdated.
what say you?

I'll go with Motown over the boy bands that were trying to copy Motown.

Most of those "boy bands" wrote their own songs and played their own instruments.
Still, I can't pick one over the other.

Well, technically, most of the early Motown acts didn't play instruments. Of course, they had the amazing Funk Brothers handling the playing on those tracks.

Translation: I hope Ron reads this so he thinks I'm great and that I know a lot about music!!!
So transparent.
And pathetic.

Yeah, I misunderstood because the original statement was so hideously misinformed. While the British Invasion was heavily influenced by earlier American rock & roll, blues, soul, etc. to say that they were trying to copy their contemporaries in Motown indicates you probably aren't listening too closely.

The Beatles ≠ rock.

Aw. Is this because I said I was happy you weren't coming tonight? I'm sorry if I hurt your feelings. It was insensitive of me, and just know you are the prettiest and most special flower in the garden.

not only does Motown beat the British Invasion, but Motown has made more cultural impact than rock has. i can't speak for rock, but from Motown, you get R&B, hip hop, rap, some pop. sure, rock has its versions of it, but, they dont hold up as well.

Love them both but Brit Invasion is my life pretty much.
beatles, Stones, Yardbirds and thusly Beck and Clapton, The Animals.
Plus most of the Brit bands that stuck around were able to really perfect the Motown songs in their covers.

You are wise beyond your years young lady. To see a chick mention The Yardbirds...it just warms my cold, cold heart.

Love both, but I gotta give it up for the Brits. The Motown Sound is brilliant. but it's definitely "trapped" in a moment in time. The British Invasion had much further reaching direct influence on so many more acts that I love from the last 40 years, right up to today.

I can tolerate later Beatles, but not the early Beatles.
I never got into the Rolling Stones.
That's just me. I know I'm wierd.

I think Stax was influencing the Brits on the soul-side, because they were releasing music before '63.
