When it came to safety this year, there was apparently no debate. Starting this fall, the NFL is going to outlaw the "wedge" on kickoffs, stop the bunching of players on onside kicks, protect blockers from a helmet-to-helmet hit from the blindside and save receivers from forearm or shoulder hits to the head when they appear to be defenseless.

The safety change for the onside kick may seem to be a minor adjustment, but it became more important when the Competition Committee watched tape of violent collisions on onside kicks.

though helmet to helmet is bad and should be gone, are you KIDDING ME? You cant set up a wedge of blockers now? FUCK THIS BULLSHIT

Gave up on em years ago...

Their product is awful and boring, the NFL is one of the more hypocritical entities on the earth in terms of how it treats its veterans, and there's nothing appealing about it whatsoever.

I'm just so sick of the saturation coverage of it 24/7 on every single sports channel, and every single sports radio network, which is why I no longer care to listen/tune in to any of them.

The NFL will not get one more of my hard earned dollars ever again if I can help it

I'm pretty much in the same boat except I continue to follow every second of it. I hate what its become though and people think its such a superior sport. People who know nothing can follow one day a week and look for big hits and pretend to care and then go back to their lives til next Sunday. It's become huge for anything but the actual sport and for that I resent it. I don't know why I still care so much.

Because when your team holds up this trophy at the end of the season there is NOTHING better!

I got a call yesterday from my "relocation manager" from the New York Jets.
The season tickets I hold my Uncle purchased as an original New York Titans season ticket holder in 1960. They were turned over to me in 1989 since he had no children. So the account is straight back to the beginning. Through all these years of mediocrity and embarrassment. When people say they are a Jets fan I ask them were you there when they went 3-29 over 2 years and still raised season tickets $10 a piece?
So my Manager Manny calls and says that based on my "senority" I will likely not get my requested choice of upper deck seats that hold no PSL fee. I have 2 kids going to college next year and already have to pay a PSL to retain the Giants seats my brothers and I also share. I was giving up some pretty nice Jets seats (next to Jets wives lower deck) to sit up top to save the PSL money.
My "seniority" as this douche bag pointed out didn't make this move likely. 48 years of loyalty to this team that has had 1, count it 1, highlight in its inglorious history will likely end next year. All so that they can build a gigantic monument to making more money at the expense of actual fans. Next to the stadium that exists already and for everyone who I've asked is just fine. Not to mention the complete clusterfuck it has been while they build this thing.
The NFL and the New York Jets in particular can suck a big bag of dicks.

I was born without a team. I am a rare fan who watches everything, played my entire life, but for some reason don't have that bond with anyone. I root for certain things here and there and my wallet over everything.

Also on kickoffs, the kicking team can't have more than five players bunched together pursuing an onside kick.

I thought the point of the play was to GET THE BALL? I wouldn't be shocked if a team switched their team colors to pink and more pink next season.

I don't understand what the problem with the wedge is. It hardly works anyway.

Now Goodell wants a 17th or 18th regular season game? So he wants the players to be fairies, but be girlish players more often.

I like that the same thing happened to Carson Palmer 2 years ago and the league didn't care. It happens to Brady, they change the rules.

It happened to Palmer in the playoffs. And he plays for Cincinnati.

Brady got injured the first game of the year and plays for a large market team.

They almost changed the rules when Vick broke his leg in the preseason a couple of years ago.

Weird, since I was told that I could get pretty much any seat I wanted. My seniority dates back to 1981.

I dealt with my relocation person over a month ago though...why are you in so late.

Oooops, just noticed you can't respond.

They instituted the "Kimo von Oelhoffen" rule (aka you can't hit the QB low) when Palmer got hurt

During the 2005 Wildcard Playoff game against Cincinnati, Von Oelhoffen hit Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer's left knee late while being blocked by Eric Steinbach. [5] The injury to Palmer was severe, including damage to his anterior cruciate ligament, medial collateral ligament, and posterior cruciate ligament.

Von Oelhoffen later apologized publicly for the hit. Though Palmer confirmed that von Oelhoffen never contacted him personally to apologize, Palmer forgave him stating that the injury was, "just part of the game."[6][7]

During the off-season, the NFL Rules Committee modified the rule regarding low hits on quarterbacks. The so-called "Kimo Clause" now requires that defenders take every opportunity to avoid hitting a quarterback at or below the knees when the quarterback is in a defenseless position looking to throw with both feet on the ground.
