I was just curious what people decorate their walls with and/or where they go shopping for stuff like artwork, etc.

I've gotten some pieces from Kohl's and TJ Maxx, and I've also framed my own photography and put it up.

I'm planning to get an art-deco poster that I'm going to frame at Target...

What I want to avoid is the "french wine" posters. Never was a big fan of them.

I am a huge fan of framing stuff. Everything in my houses are framed original stuff. Some quite valuable others just sentimental stuff. Going to the frame shop is one of my vices. I have ordered things on line( old maps nautical stuff, family portraits )unframed then had them framed at the local place. I have some patients who are artists up state CT that is the only thing I have ever bartered work for.

I can never get over how disturbing I find people's love for Van Goh, especially Starry Night ... it's like they've never seen it in person.

Oh.

Wait.

Not everybody did.

Trust me, it's a lot more disturbing if you've seen it in person.

The Dali, on the other hand, I can handle. It's Magritte that I have a problem with!!!

We have the following:

1) A shot of Old Yankee Stadium that I took myself with my "good" camera. My mother thought it was a professional picture until I had to explain to her that I actually have other skills besides drinking a lot.

2) A shot of Paia, Hawaii from our trip there. The colors just POP and I love the shot, even though the location where we shot the pic was probably the worst part of our trip there.

I have a couple of small scenics of Hawaii and Arizona.

An "old-tyme" map of the Western Hemisphere.

Two in a series of the Flatiron Building and Big Ben.

On the third floor, which is basically the "playroom", we have the following:

Panoramics of MSG, Old Yankee Stadium, and Giants Stadium

Autographed picture of Wayne Chrebet, and photos of Broadway Joe and Chad Pennington

We also have a great shot of Rutgers Stadium's field being mobbed after the Louisville win in 2006.

We used to have a lot of IKEA and target art, but when we moved to a place with really high ceilings, the small art didn't look right, at all.

Now we buy art direct from artists on Ebay. It's relatively cheap, too. We got two huge painting from chinese artists, one that's over 5' long, another over 4' tall.

This. Home Goods is the shit. We have bought quite a few pictures there.
I have a lot of my parents stuff, one of my dad's customers was an artist so I have a lot of her stuff. Landscapes, some still-lifes. I have a huge painting of a Russian town (complete with Onion-top Church) that I still have to hang up again. The thing is a monster, about 3 feet across. We try to make each room a bit different, the livingroom/dining room have the oils, our bedroom has a lot of asian art, the back room has a travel theme (old B&W photos of buildings, old-time travel poster style pictures).
Don't think you have to make everything look "finished" all at once. I love seeing the interesting paintings and such that people collect and put up over the years. I hate walking into someone's home and seeing a room that looks like it came out of a catalog.
