There is a new cell phone company called METRO PCS and they have recently
blanketed the area in advertisements.
The pitch: $40 dollars, unlimited calls, unlimited texts and No contracts ever!

Sounds great - but the most important factor in chosing a cellphone company =
HOW IS THE SERVICE - RECEPTION etc..?

I use verizon and hate the contracts and costs - but they have the best reception.

Anyone try this new plan?

It's obviously for Mexicans and anyone else in this country sans documents.

Probably for low-level street dealers too.

In Philly its the same thing for $30. Plus $30 to buy the phone.

Theres another company doing it too, I forget what its called but the ad campaign is "respeKt". spelled like that.

MetroPCS has it's own network, but will have aggresive roaming policies with other CDMA carriers, mainly Verizon, Sprint, etc.

Other no-name providers are typically MVNO's (Mobile Virtual Network Operators) who are actually GSM carriers operating under their own name, but are truly AT&T or T-Mobile operators.

For a full list of MVNO's and what carrier they are selling under, see this site:

Bottom line, you really only have two different types of coverage, GSM or CDMA. They will differ across the country, but you really need to test. CDMA does have better wall penetration, so I always recommend that if you are in signal challenged areas.
