this article is quite disturbing
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/moslive/article-1160972/The-far-right-march-rise-fascism-Austria.html
the 'far-right' party in Austria got
as many votes as the governing party
the guys they quote don't mince their words
they have added muslims, africans and asians
to their hate list, but of course are keeping the jews
in their crosshairs
with the economy the way it is
and with the rise of immigration into europe
this is going to be a problem
a big problem

it's not really a new issue in Austria.. just a few years back the NPD was getting similar press and there is a party just like it in Germany as well which just never got enough votes to make an impact

The article is frightening in that it draws its parallels from 1930, however the real problem in Europe isn't Nazis its forced liberalism.

This seems to demonstrate a completely lack of understanding of the long history of liberal politics in Europe.

Hey, think what you want. To dismiss the problems of Europe as being due to "forced liberalim" (whatever that actually is) is a silly statement. Liberal politics have a long history throughout Western Europe and to try and pigeonhole them as some kind of recent problem responsible for most things going wrong is simply flying in the face of European history. If one wants to explore how extremist politics, Left or Right, tend to steer things of course, that's something one can easily track historically, especially in Europe.
And yes, I am very arrogant and condescending because I am also very smart and handsome.

Has it been mentioned that Mojo is smart and handsome? I gotta give him that. I also gotta give him one in the poop chute when he comes to visit.

I'm concerned. Nazism gained support in the same economic climate in the 30's, and hate spreads faster than tolerance. There will always be a fringe group of haters, but we must do our best to keep them on that fringe. 29% is out of control.

Right, but this isn't the direct comparison that the article wants us to think. The politically climates are totally different than the 20's and 30's. Hell, we're talking about Austria here, not 1930's Germany. The situations and means available to the countries arguably couldn't be more drastically different. This isn't something to be shrugged off, but it's not the impending threat of the Fourth Reich like the UK tabloid press wants it to be.

I love you Mojo and still want your babies, but some political similaries can be drawn. Austria was under the shadow of the USSR. when they crumbled, it left a power vaccum. i think that they are still feeling it, even though its been 15 years (not really that long)
After WWI, Germany was suffering from the same power vaccum after being smashed by the Allies. It took about 10-15 years to take root, but it did.
Maybe it takes 15 years for the old generation to forget and the new generation to glorify.

It's still way too broad. A huge thing that's missing are the at least tens of thousands of unemployed and pissed off soldiers who went home with their government-issue weapons and ammo after they got the boot. Another thing that's missing is the clear desire for war in the wake of a devastating loss just 15 years prior. You also don't have a country surrounded by other countries that were desperate to avoid war because they were so crippled by the last one (or internal revolution). Austria also does not have the industrial capabilties that Germany had.
Yeah, you've got frustration and you've got a bad economy right now, but some really critical factors are missing. Most critical is the lack of warmongering rhetoric with this party. Hitler and Co. never hid their desire to go to war.

Man, I hate Sequels.
I figured the death of Jorg Haider would cause the far right's popularity to wane in Austria. Guess not.
Is this from the Dr. Evil/Ernst Stavros Blofeld collection?
