NEW YORK (AP) -- Actor Ron Silver, who won a Tony Award as a take-no-prisoners Hollywood producer in David Mamet's ``Speed-the-Plow'' and did a political about-face from loyal Democrat to Republican activist after the Sept. 11 attacks, died Sunday at the age of 62.

Actor Ron Silver Dies of Cancer
AP
(March 15) - Actor Ron Silver has died in New York City after a two-year battle with esophageal cancer.
The Creative Coalition Executive Director Robin Bronk says the 62-year-old, who co-founded the nonprofit, died peacefully in his sleep with his family around him early Sunday morning.

Silver won a Tony Award as a take-no-prisoners Hollywood producer in David Mamet's "Speed-the-Plow" and did a political about-face from loyal Democrat to Republican activist after the Sept. 11 attacks.
Silver earned an Emmy nomination for a recurring role as a slick strategist for liberal President Jed Bartlet on "The West Wing." And Silver himself had a long history of balancing acting with left-leaning social and political causes.
I always loved him as a bad guy.

I don't remember seeing him much after the WW stint, if at all.

I guess the cancer might have had something to do with that. I had no idea he was that old.

I also think he was heavy into politcal issues.

Shame....

Did you know: He exploded into himself and turned in a glob of goop in Time Cop. Two of the same matter cannot occupy the same space.

I thought his big titted wife faked her own rape and then killed him with a bat in The Beneficiary.

Yes, I watched that horrible piece of shit.

According to the article, he was a liberal until 9/11 and then switched to being a republican. He said his work dwindled after doing so.

Eh...his IMDB doesn't really show that. The biggest change seems to be that his bread and butter for most of the 90's, network TV movies, fell off the map.

Surprisingly, this hit me hard. He was one of my favorite B list actors.

I remember him on Rhoda when I was a kid.

He was great as a psycho in the Jamie Leigh Curtis film "Blue Steel".

Time Cop as mentioned above.

But to me, his all time best performance was in the 80's film, "Eat and Run".

It was not a financial or critical success, but it's hilarious.
It's about a space alien that comes to earth and discovers Italian food (meaning he eats Italian people). Silver plays Mickey McSorley, the detective tasked with finding the killer.
It's only available on video tape as far as I know, but if you wanna pay homage to the man by watching one of his films, I'd recommend this.

R.I.P.

The biggest change was Heat Vision & Jack not getting picked up.
