David Kajganich from The Invasion is directing... Could be good? (http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2009/03/stephen-kings-it-gets-a-remake)
As you might remember, this is the story of a group of kids who take it upon themselves to bring this creepy, shape-shifting creature called Pennywise down, back in ‘58. They hurt it, flee, and then decide to bind themselves together in case they ever need to fight It again. In one of the most warped rationales ever, this involves not only blood, but the lone girl of the group having sex with all of her boy pre-teen friends. Years later, the thing, who often takes the shape of the classic creepy clown, starts killing again and the friends reunite for another baddie butt-kicking. The original 'It' was pretty scary for a tv movie.
Keep the same story, Tim Curry, and Seth Green and dump the rest of the cast

I saw the Tim Curry movie before I read the book. I was shocked with the chapter were Beverly had sex with all the boys to deflower them and make them men. I wonder if any movie maker would take a risk and really do this movie the way the book is written.

Have you seen Tim Curry lately? It might give a certain subtext to what It is doing with those kids.

This is exciting news - only if they make it R rated. If so, maybe alot of Stephen King's books can be made the correct way - not made for fuckin tv. i would love someone to remake the Stand. That bullshit made for fuckin ABC just blew. I felt like it was made for a high school adotorium. And Rob Lowe - dont get me started.

The book was over 1,000 pages long. No movie is going to do the book justice, movie or tv-based. Besides, the movies that were faithful to King's books have been pretty god-awful. Kubrick's Shining>TV faithful Shining
This thread makes me miss John Ritter.

I hated the original movie like poison, but I read the book as a kid three times. Hands down my favorite childhood novel. Maybe I'd give the new movie a chance, but likely when I see it on cable.

The fact they are making this a real movie instead of made for TV is a huge step in the right direction. Another huge step would be making it R rated.
I think it will be really good.
The Stand is just not a book you can make into a movie. There are so many characters and the book is so long a movie just cant do it justice. Anything made for tv just straight up blows though. I dont think Ive ever seen a good made for tv movie.

I read the book about a year ago and really liked it. I've come really close to renting it but never had. Thank God I didn't, I didn't know it was a TV movie. It will be hard to fit 1000 pages in a movie but I'm glad they're trying. It's an excellent story.

i always thought the Tim Curry clown was a bit weak and not scary, but little ridiculous. any amount of make up can't hide that Curry grill. and his huge round clown head is obviously just because he has a lot of hair under the latex. it looks like low budget stuff. the next It clown would have to be scarier.

You have no idea......
I also read Huck Finn five times, Tom Sawyer no less than three times, Alice in Wonderland no less than eight times. There are so many good childhood books I missed, at the same time.
Yeah, I wouldn't go back to those days for millions and millions of dollars.
