What is your solution to fixing this country. Here is mine.

Three years mandatory military enrollment.

This would fix our country for the following reasons.

1) 100% employment for ages 18-21. No excuses for anyone.

2) Everyone learns a trade. No excuses for anyone.

3) Everyone gets college money. No excuses for anyone.

4) Everyone learns structure, respect, and discipline.

5) Probably less conflict when everyone's children is in danger.

I think this would take a huge bite out of crime, and stimulate the economy like no other plan. Sure it could never happen, because of freedom issues, but that is my solution.

Vote Nick the Cock 012.

My idea for fixing America is printing more money then handing it out to everyone. If we print enough money to give $100 to each American, I'd say we'd be in pretty good shape. Stimulate that economy.

And to all you haters, at least Cock and I have plans. Anyone else?

I would rather see mandatory civil service than military. Spend two years helping out your community and earn money for college.

Maybe civil or military service

i actually like this idea

this idea is pretty good, not as good as my bar night idea, but a close second

In Germany it used to be one year and only for males 18 years old after graduating school or finishing vocational school (10th grade + vocational) or Gymnasium which is 12-13 years so they are 18/ 19 at graduation.
They have to do military or civil service for a year and some end up enlisting after their year.
Now it is only 10 months.
It's mandatory for males and voluntarily for females

Schools are pretty much free or have very small tuition fees.

do you think it is an effective program?

do you think it is an effective program?

it used to be 3 or 4 years during communism later was shortened and then shortened again.
Is it effective? Well in some cases; as it does teach responsibility and independence and discipline to some degree. My cousin told me stories though where after the initial boot camp period which is about 10 weeks they were all kinds of crazy and lose, out and about at night and careless with weapons...

On the other hand teenagers start drinking earlier in Europe too which I believe adds a lot to certain behaviors in groups away from the parents for the first time.

Nope. As a veteran of the all-volunteer military who is the son and brother of jarheads who served during the draft, nothing beats a military of volunteers who want to be there vs. a military of draftees who want to go home.

nope nope nope nope nope nope nope.

I agree to some points but in europe they can chose civil service over military and a lot of young people here sign up for national guard or reserve army to benefit from educational benefits simply because the US offers too little support to students right out of high school.

I'd like to see a balance of tuition assistance given to kids volunteering for civil service here too. Not everyone who needs tuition assistance and are qualified for college are suited for the military.

But both types should be voluntary imo.

The plan is bad and our current marketplace has also failed in this role.

Everybody should be required to work 3 months as a waiter and/or bartender so they can learn how to be good customers and tippers.

From an educational stand point, for starters, how about we quit with the thinking everyone is suited for college? Some just aren't. Maybe if we had some better vocational training and manufacturing jobs that people could earn a live at we wouldn't have so many unhappy cube dwellers.

I think you risk creating a class system when you deem some people not suited for college.

I don't suggest anyone make that determination for someone else. I'm speaking as one who wasn't suited for that type of learning also. I do pretty well for myself in a hands on situation but I was never much for the books. There aren't many good paying jobs like that left.

As for a class system, we already have that; upper, middle, lower. And truth be told, I don't think many move one way or another out of the class they are born in. I know it happens, but its not the rule.

I agree, education and going to college don't have to be the same thing. As you say some folks aren't suited for college. In a lot of school systems those not going on to college are seen as failures. What we need is an increase in vocational training and shift in value placed on a vocation versus college education.

That and killing off half the population with a psychic blast from a giant squid alien dropped in the middle of NYC uniting the world and ending war. (just don't tell Rorschach, he has a big mouth)

Id say make it illegal to outsource jobs outside the US. No penalties, no fines, just dont allow it.

Im not talking trade, you could still buy goods, just not have people do any work overseas that can be done here. No more paying dotheads $1 an hour to answer my fucking phone calls Bill Gates. Even if they paid minimum wage, it would open up alot of jobs here in the states.

Then the companies already doing this would likely just move overseas altogether.

Exactly. Whether people want to face the facts 15 years after NAFTA or not, we live in a global economy.

We should stop crying about the minimum wage jobs we've lost and look to grab all of the human capital jobs attached to innovation fields as fast as possible. If we aren't on the front edge of ET (environmental technology) and stem cell research innovation, we are going to lose a golden economic opportunity.

So Ford couldn't build their cars in Mexico anymore? Chevy couldn't build their trucks in Canada?

I'm all for that.

Could Nissan still build vehicles in Tennessee? Could Toyota still build them in Kentucky, California, and Texas? Could Honda continue production in Ohio?

I guess what I'm saying is that it's not so cut and dry. While U.S. companies do have a lot of their work done in other countries, a lot of foreign companies operate here and employ many Americans.

how about tort reform ? the reason medical fees are so high is the obscenly large jury awards that the lawyers bilk. aig , another insurer , same scenerio. why were the banks lending money to people that couldnt pay it back ? lawyers/congress. you can find a lawyer at the bottom of most our national problems.
let it be know'n : if you are a lawyer, and this is not an acurate reflection of you, then
this isnt directed at you; but at your brothers that dishonor the intent of the law.
