Oh Oracle,
which instrument is better...?
The bass is what people move to.
But the guitar allows the front man to prance about,
and make rock faces....

I voted bass even though The Doors, Assuck, & Discordance Axis didn't need one.
Bass players are dorks. Human metronomes.
Guitar players are fun loving, foot loose, and fancy free!

This is like deciding which is the sexier instrument.
I think, even though i love the guitar and might possibly regret this choice, i'm going to say bass 'cause, well im blushing thinking about the noise.

Which is precisely why you two need to attend the Night of the Living Bands 2, to witness some bowel shaking bass lines.

Both. Learning one will make you better at playing the other.

False.
Maybe false for you. All brains do not work the same. I started playing guitar when I was three. When I started playing bass not only did it improve my finger strength and dexterity, it improved my sense of rhythm dramatically. Some of us (all of us) are more gifted than you.

I've never noticed an improvement in my guitar playing skills.
Ukulele skills improved 100%.

My boyfriend played bass for a long time and was able to transition into playing the guitar without having to "learn" it.

two different instruments. two different jobs.
you can be a little loosey-goosey with your rhythm on guitar, but you cant on bass.

I completely agree with your statement but not in the way you might think.
The dexterity and muscle-memory aspects are completely different so... it's not like playing one will directly help the other.
Personally, I think it helps your headspace to learn how to play guitar in addition to bass. "What is the guitar playing doing in this section? .... how much room does he need? ..... Is what I'm doing clashing/complimenting what HE'S doing?.... I have a great idea for a guitar part here.... " etc etc.

Bass. Its so powerful, and theres so many different ways to play it. Its everything to a band and if you feel the band doesn't need a bassist or is inconsequential to the band, then he sucks and isnt doing his job.
