I take B12 and a chewable multi from time to time but nothing regular.
I should probably add a calcium supplement again soon, as I am not getting any younger here.
Do you guys take vitamins regularly, or do you choose to get all of your nutrients from food?

Ive started on a health kick as of late last year. Ive been taking One-A-Day supplement, Metamucil and Omega-3. I started taking those last year without working out and already felt the benefit of doing so. Now that Im eating better and working out they really kick in. I also use Emergen-C if that counts sometimes during the week. I find that if I go into the gym and do alot of cardio and drink Emergen-C it really helps.

I take a good multivitamin with milk or a small snack daily.
I've been doing this for about a year and a half now, although I used to take a multivitamin when I was a kid.
I also take 2 500mg gelcaps of evening primrose oil daily during the week before and the week of my period to help combat cramps. I guess I'm supposed to take it more often, but I don't particularly care for the size of the gelcaps, and I don't exactly know what it's supposed to do, so I'll take it regularly for a couple of months and then I'll stop because I'll get anxious about its effects on other systems. Besides, I don't notice a difference between taking it and just taking the multi, so why bother with something I'm not sure about, right?
In addition to these, I used to take echinacea and/or goldenseal during cold & flu season until it started to give me serious tummy troubles.

Is it true that milk does nothing beneficial for adults which is why it's universally drunk by the young across all species that drink milk?
Is it true that milk does nothing beneficial for adults which is why it's universally drunk by the young across all species that drink milk?
Milk has plenty of nutrients in it for every age, the problem comes from drinking too much and its always healthier than drinking most of the shit we drink.
I have been thinking of starting a regiment of animal pak (http://www.animalpak.com/html/sections.cfm?ID=7) to try and get back to where I was a few years ago before shoulder surgery, has anyone tried this? I like the fact that everyone is in its daily dose package.

Lunch: Vitamin C, E

Sometimes if I'm feeling adventurous, I'll throw in a B-Complex.
Although, people are telling me I'm poisoning myself.

I take fish oil too. The over the counter kind helped a little bit, but if its not helping your cholesterol as much as you would like it to, ask your doctor about Lovaza, its prescription strength fish oil, and it has cut all my numbers in half!
And def. eat something with your vitamins, I never eat enough in the morning and am always queasy.

I take a multi-vitamin everyday. When I was pregnant, because I have acid-reflux, instead of taking pre-natal vitamins, I took the multi with a Folic Acid supplement.
That's pretty much it. I've thought about others, but unsure. Seriously thinking about calcium supplements as I don't think I get enough dairy in my diet.

I think many adults suffer from calcium deficiency because they don't drink milk. I've heard so many people comment on how they don't like the taste of milk.
I only like to have protein shakes (not the dirty kinds) with my workouts, as they are the only supplements that seem to have a noticeable effect on me. That, and energy drinks /w coffee.

I took Animal Pak. While it was interesting I did not find it worth the super high cost at all, and, the amount of time it took me to take all of the pills combined with how some of them were almost painful to swallow due to their size (shut up all of you) I doubt I will be going back.

It is better to take vitamins via food rather than medicines.... I have read on a magazine that there are more side effects from the vitamin tablets..... As well as more vitamins will casue some stones in kidney too, Am I right?
boobieman
04-23-2009, 07:54 AM
True..the best way to get your vits...is with food. But if you can't eat right or if you can't always have a healthy meal, then go with the subs. Some vits can cause kidney stones, but if you take or not take vitamins, always drink lots of water.
Some people just have the rotten luck of creating kidney stones naturally. My family is like that but so far so good for me.

Everyday hubby and I take a good multi, fish oil, and a probiotic. Also extra folic acid for me, and additional selenium (http://www.seacoastvitamins.com/topic.php?health=selenium) for him. The folic acid and selenium are good for those trying to conceive.

im taking vitamins aw well..
there is this one vitamin that i take and its name is squalene i think and their vitamins that came from sharks..http://www.bargainscreeners.com/blog/gnc.gif
the problem is its giving me headache, dunno why..
now that i stopped taking it, i don't experience headaches anymore..

This is my stance. Most studies show that vitamins have little or no effect on your health.
My doctor told me to take 1000mg of Vitamin D3 everyday because I have a deficiency..
I think it's backing me up though.

I take daily:
Multi-vitamin
D3
B12
Flaxseed Oil
Fish Oil
Baby Aspirin
I also drink at least 50g of whey protein isolate in the morning.
When I do all this, I notice a MAJOR improvement in my energy and I am much less hungry all day.
I also take B-Complex on days after I drink... or right before I am going out to drink.

For the past year and a half or so I've had a pretty steady daily routine that I follow just about every single day. Centrum multi-vitamin and a NatureMade Fish Oil with breakfast in the morning. NatureMade B-Complex in the afternoon with lunch. Not sure if any of it actually does anything for me. But I figure it can't hurt.

I take vitamin B too when I am drinking and it really is great for hangover prevention. It is really important to take it before drinking and right after you are done, before you go to sleep (or just lose consciousness).
I don't know for sure why vitamin B helps, but alcohol is a diuretic, so you deplete your water soluable vitamins and minerals when you pee so much. I think that when alcohol interacts with some cells, it damages those cells and creates free radicals, which help cause headaches. Vitamin B helps eliminate those radicals and keeps you from getting a headache (if you try to take it AFTER you already are hungover, it is too late).
That is my uneducated understanding. It's just what I have been told.
Anyway, I take a Centrum daily. It has a lot more vitamins than One-A-Day. I tried taking a men's vitamin, but it made my pee and sweat smell rancid--almost like ammonia. If anybody has any insight to that, I'd love to hear it.

The reason that your urine smells bad after taking the supplements, may be because of the stereotype that vitamins and supplements are just "expensive urine." This is because many vitamins do not break down in your body properly, and end up going through your body without really breaking down. There have been xrays which show the vitamin in you, and you can actually still read the label, very scary. In order for a vitamin or supplement to work properly it must break down within being in your body for 15-30 mins. It it does not break down within that time period then it won't break down at all, and it will go through you completely. There is a certain brand which is known as "bed pan bullets" to nurses in hospitals. (Think from A to Zinc)
When choosing supplements, it is important to do your research and make sure that the specific brand you are taking uses pharmaceutical grade standards during it's manufacturing process. Most supplements are created under food grade standards, which means that what you see on the label may not be really in the label. There have been studies done that show what you see on the label is not really in the bottle.
Additionally, it is very important to receive the optimal amount of vitamins and minerals each day. The recommended daily allowances of vitamins and mineral's were created in World War II, when people were dying of scurvy, ricket's and malaria. The soldiers needed in the war needed these vitamins and minerals to fight against those diseases. We are no longer dying of those diseases, but are now dying because of horrible degenerative diseases such as cancer, diabetes, alzheimers, heaert disease, etc. Our bodies need a much higher amount of these vitamin's and minerals to fight against the oxidative stress that causes these diseases. The optimal amount of vitamin E is 400IU, it would be very hard to obtain that amount of vitamin E through a diet alone as it would take 28.8 pounds of spinach, and or 2.8 pounds of spinach.
Some resources to learn more about this are http://www.raystrand.com/nutritional-medicine.asp
and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJikKU2xiwg to learn about the dissolution of different supplements.

They said a vitamin supplement is not important in our body as long as you eat a well balance diet like fruits and vegetables. Eating those is really a help in our body, and in addition its natural that is good in our health and it is affordable.

Booze depletes Vitamin B. The best hangover remedy I've come across is to take a B-complex pill, 4 Vitamin C pills, and 4 Fish Oil caps. Wash 'em down with a large glass of water. You're not going to be at 100% the next day, but it definitely makes a difference.

With few exceptions, eating a healthy diet is the best way to not only get your nutrients but the best way to get your body to absorb of them properly.
I do take one multi-vitamin a day, but otherwise I can't be bothered swallowing all those pills.
If you need Vit D.. get some sun.
If you need lycopene.. eat some tomato sauce.
If you need fiber and potassium, eat an apple (which you dont get from apple juice)
etc etc..
I don't understand people who load up on vitamins and then eat McDonalds 3x a week.
