i know it's a long season (even now that's such a cliche), but i'd love to seen a few days of good wins, padded stats and tabloid free coverage

I know it's raining and all but it's very strange to see all the empty seats in the stadium for a Yankee/Red Sox game. Why can't they let people move up or upgrade if they aren't being used?
Anyone who snuck down into the field level seats during the game were removed. Two guys were actually escorted away by a cop. The last couple innings they didn't bother though but there weren't really a lot of people doing it.
They did have 3 or 4 "seat upgrade raffles" where they'd move someone from the cheap seats to the field level seats and show it on the humongotron. I don't know if the suits think that's a great way to "reward" fans or something but to me it seemed really cheap to me. Like it was a pity move or something.
I know it's midnight on a Monday after a rain delay, but I'm mildly stunned at how empty that place is with the Red Sox in town.
It was a 2 hour rain delay then even once the game finally started people just gathered in the concourse area where the could stay out of the rain. Most of the field level seats are exposed except for a couple rows at the top. When the game started though there was still at least 3/5 or a stadium there.
Im the last person that would defend the yankees if it wasnt warranted, but the way weather was, I cant get on anyone for not showing. I guess if you can afford to eat a 2G ticket, more power to ya
Those were empty the whole night more or less. In one section to the right side of home plate there was only like 6 people sitting there. That fake mafia guy with the show on Spike was there though, so at least fake mafia guys on TV can still afford those seats. The paid attendance was 44,000+. The fucking Yankees did shit to keep us updated on the situation. I heard 3rd hand around 8 that they'd try to have the game at 9. The Yankees didn't make an announcement till like 8:45. People had to work today, couldn't stay... Just fucking awful situation all around.
Boy, seems like Texieras honeymoon is over huh?
He had his chance to win the crowd over like Giambi did hitting that grand slam against the Twins and he blew it. He jacked those two home runs and everyone was loving it. I think he'll be fine. Tino went though the same shit, Giambi as well. He wins one game and it'll be over.

I hate to bitch about balls and strikes, but its been a pretty odd strike zone the last couple of nights.
Joba left the game with a 3.77 ERA which is the best ERA on the team. He's been the teams most effective starter and that's STILL not enough for some people.

I feel like no coach is good enough to manage the bullpen for you, i heard the same thing from you two years ago. Could it be because the bullpen sucks and not the coach? Their only good reliever outside of Mo is hurt. Trust me, it frustrates me too. But Girardi isnt out there throwing the pitches, neither was Torre

The tickets were sold for both these games. The weather was just shit all day both days. It was pouring when I left NYC yesterday around noon. Not to mention it was a midweek game. I'm from 3 hours away and if I hadn't gotten a hotel room monday night way ahead of time in the city I wouldn't have stuck around for that game either.

Not that it translates to everyone, but damn, what a shitty fanbase/organization. I really had nothing against either, but this year the worst aspects of both are just being highlighted left and right. You've got the organization fucking over the fans that would be there regardless of the delays and you've got these (literally) fairweather fans leaving the seats empty and then people booing Tex because of a slow start or because he doesn't hit a game-winning hit. How many best players in the league do the Yanks need to get before some of these fans grasp the concept that even the best players don't always come through?

He's hitting .198. The team hasn't beaten the Red Sox in the first 6 games they've played. Should the female fans be throwing panties at him?
The fans who are paying the money to come see this team play are seeing bad baseball. They really do have a right to voice their frustration.

Guys have slow starts all the time. He clearly hasn't just forgotten how to hit and he'll obviously produce big time over the season. His production isn't the sole or even main reason that they've lost all the games to the Sox so far. The Yanks have a decent team but with some real holes in the lineup and in the bullpen. The dropoff from Tex to all the other players in term of being hitting threats is so steep that he's going to get a lot more garbage thrown at him that's not going to give him much to hit. Like it or not, having ARod back in this lineup hitting after him is going to be huge and it's almost a lock to see his numbers shoot up because pitchers are going to have to go at him so much more.

Ya know what..fuck you Yankee fans. All we have heard for years is how the Yankee's can go out at any time and get whatever player they want. Well..that has caught up with you now in ticket prices and your jumping off the bandwagon.

Yup. I paid these free agents. Yup, I... Along with all these other Yankee fans here made Yankee policy when it came to drafting and free agency. Thank you for pointing that out. Yes, I along with every other Yankee fan out there berated the organization for years to shit can that garbage of a stadium they had for 85 years to build a brand new one and similarly demanded ticket prices price me out along with everyone else who has had season tickets some their whole adult life time. Thank you for placing the blame where blame is due. The phone calls that WFAN fields should be taken as the life pulse of what the majority of fans feel about the organization. Thank you for your insight.

If you're white... There's no way you can understand what it's like when someone calls you a nigger. Correct? As a white man you can't understand what it's like to be black and be called a nigger. It is, just like being a fan of the Cubs is unique. I wouldn't know what it's like cause I'm not one
Some of the details change, but at the end of the day it's being a baseball fan. Prima dona baseball superstars are nothing new. Steroid scadals are nothing new. The Yanks, and their fans, aren't dealing with anything from ARod that the game hasn't seen before. It's certainly enhanced by the size of the market and the legacy of the team, but it's not radically different to the point that "nobody who isn't a Yankees fan just doesn't get it, maaaaaaannnnn."

If you're white... There's no way you can understand what it's like when someone calls you a nigger. Correct? As a white man you can't understand what it's like to be black and be called a nigger. So really there's no way you can go to a black man and say,"You know, I understand how it feels... I get it." Because there's no way that you do get it. You don't get it. You have no idea how it feels. So you really have no idea what it feels like to be black.
That's exactly how it feels to be a Yankee fan when anyone else talks about Arod. You don't understand.
There's a South Park episode that truly expresses the concept a lot better than I can though.
That's ridiculous.
Beyond the obvious reasons, if I want to go along these silly lines, I grew up a Bulls fan when they won their threepeats. I know what it's like the be a fan of a major market dynasty team with the best player in the game who "everyone hates." It's not that unusual or special.

I'll even argue that just being a baseball fan in general is unique. what you like about the game i might not like. you might dig a pitchers duel, while i like hitting homeruns (cause chicks dig the long ball and you love dudes). but thats beside the point, being a fan of a certain team is absolutely unique in regard to being a fan of another team. each team has their history, their park, their players and they play their style of baseball. i just cant agree with you on this one.

Because it's not unique. Just because a player isn't the "best ever" doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of great players to go around and all their baggage. Contrary to popular belief, the Yankees don't hae the market cornered on great players or player scandals.

I dont know if I am neutral as a Yankee fan but I think I can give a fairly unbiased opinion
Waldman is an atrocity no two ways about it. She does not belong in the booth. If you had to give her a positive aspect it would be .............
i got nothing
Kay is ok he does call a fair game. He does feel able to be critical of the Yankees on occasion which is a reasonable expectation. He gets over excited at times. He isnt as much of a homer as some other teams announcers, RedSox come to mind.
Sterling I for one am a fan. I can absolutely appreciate that he would drive people nuts. But the things that drive others nuts are what endears him to me. The hystrionics and the catch phrases are enjoyable to me. They are predictable and they bring excitement to what is suppose to be the "exciting " part of a game. He does not take himself too serious with these things. Why shouldnt a homerun be given the big time treatment. Or the yankees win Its entertainment. Again others will hate this shit but I like it.
Other positives. He paints a great word picture. By that I mean he is good at letting you know what is going on, if you tune in he seemlessly lets you know the inning count score batter pitcher etc without it being a drone. He is often completely wrong on pitch location and can fumble around with stuff but generally he is on top of delivering the facts.
I have found other teams announcers cant always do this. Tune into a game on MLB XM and some places I have no idea what is going on in a game.
Consistency Sterling does play by play of every inning of every game. He has not missed a game, spring training through WS in all the time he has had this gig. Hes not sharing these duties since Waldman cant handle play bu play.
negatives
He paints a glorious picture of every situation. He can put a positive spin on any thing. Noone is ever slumping or getting shelled they are just about ready to break out or there fast ball is coming around.
He can be very inaccurate. While he is good at painting a word picture. He can be wrong fairly often. i get a kick out of the inaccurate homerun calls etc "It is high it is far it is caught" makes me laugh sure it pisses others off.
Id keep Sterling ,Ditch Waldman
Kay is fine, doesnt bother me that much because TV is visual and he is less important plus he is surrounded by quality guys in the booth.

HA! (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=4155472)
BALTIMORE -- New York Yankees (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=nyy) right-hander Joba Chamberlain (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=28847) broke a blood vessel in his thumb during batting practice Saturday, leaving his status for Sunday in doubt.
Chamberlain was scheduled to start in the finale of a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/clubhouse?team=bal).
Chamberlain was throwing a ball underhanded back to the infield when he felt something pop in his right thumb.
"He threw a ball in and he looked down at his thumb and he felt something and looked at it. He popped a blood vessel and he got some treatment during the game," manager Joe Girardi said late Saturday night. "We don't think it will be an issue but we have to protect ourselves."
Gene Monahan, the Yankees' head trainer, told Girardi he didn't think the injury would be an issue.
"Joba was able to grip the ball tonight during the game," Girardi said. "We'll know fairly quickly when he starts warming up if he can go."
If Chamberlain is unable to go, Girardi said Alfredo Aceves (http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/players/profile?playerId=29223) will make his first start of the season.
Chamberlain is 1-1 with a 3.77 ERA in six starts this year.

If you sprint to first to beat out a ground ball make it safe they can't chase you down the 1st base line and tag you out. You're allowed to run through the bag. But if you make any motion to head for 2nd the ball is live again and they can tag you out.

well sorta. its always a live ball persay, you just cant record an out til he touches second. You can throw the ball where ever you want, though. Almost like how you would snap throw to first. You throw to second. He gets 2nd free, but if you step passed it, why wouldnt he be out?
yea, makes total sense.

we were always taught to turn right at first if it was a close play there. turning left you were still live, but it seems this doesn't carry over to the bigs. then again, neither does the strike zone.
